Microsoft Teams Chat List Blank: 39 Android Reviews (2026)
After a late-September update, Microsoft Teams on Android shows blank chat rows and a less compact list. We read every review describing it: what broke, which build, what makes the chats appear, and why clearing the cache did not help.
If your Microsoft Teams chat list on Android suddenly shows empty rows with only a date or a timestamp, or the chats now take up so much space that you can see half as many as before, it is not your phone. Both started for a lot of people with the same update at the end of September.
We read every recent Google Play review that describes the new chat list to find out what changed, who it hits, and what brings the missing chats back.
Quick Answer: Why Is My Teams Chat List Blank?
Since 30 September 2026, 39 Google Play reviewers say the Microsoft Teams chat list broke after an update. 23 say chat names, group names or message previews are missing or blank, and 14 say the list lost its compact spacing and now shows far fewer chats. 36 of the 39 were on the same Teams build. Opening a chat makes it appear, and one reviewer says it then stays until the app is closed. Two reviewers say clearing the cache did not help. Microsoft replied to none of the 39.
How We Counted
We pulled the 3,000 most recent US English-language Google Play reviews of Microsoft Teams, which reach back to 7 August 2026, and read every negative review (1 to 3 stars) from 29 September on. Teams holds 4.65 stars from 8,806,287 ratings on Google Play and 4.80 from 3,379,072 on the App Store. Every review below is from the Android app.
39 reviews from 30 September to 12 October describe the new chat list, 30 of them one star. That is 15.7% of the 249 negative reviews Teams got from 29 September to 13 October. In the 797 negative reviews from 7 August to 28 September, we found none that describe it.

36 of the 39 reviews are on Teams build 1416/1.0.0.2026173602, and the other three do not report a version. That build first shows up in our sample on 25 September. The first complaint about the chat list came five days later.
Empty Rows Where Your Chats Should Be
The most common complaint is that the chat list loads, but some rows are blank. Reviewers see a date or a timestamp and nothing else: no name, no group, no preview.
After updating the Microsoft Teams app, chat names and group names are not displayed in the chat list. The names appear only after opening the chat/group and then going back to the chat list. This issue started after the latest update. Please fix this UI/refresh issue in the next release.
display in the app is not good after the last upgrade this week, the chat doesn't appear until you click on them there is just the date even after clearing the cache.
OMG why can we STILL not silence inbound calls like every other app with phone capabilities in the universe?? edit 10.03.26 this app just gets worse and worse. Now some chats are not displaying in the chat list except for the date.
For a work app, this is more than cosmetic. In these reviews, the only way to find out what a blank row is, is to open it.
The latest Teams update has a HORRIBLE GUI. Chat previews take up a huge amount of vertical space, plus half of them don't load at all for 10-20 seconds. So the main chat page is just a bunch of empty space when you load the app. Utter garbage.
The List Lost Its Compact Spacing
The second group of reviews is about the layout itself. The rows got taller, the text wraps, and fewer chats fit on the screen. 14 reviewers describe it, and several say the compact view they relied on is gone or no longer works.
Very disappointed with the recent changes to Microsoft Teams on Android. The chat list, which used to be clean and compact, now has excessive spacing and awkward text wrapping, making it difficult to navigate. This issue appeared suddenly a few days ago without any changes to my settings. I've tried adjusting the layout and clearing the cache, but nothing works.
The latest update has messed up chat line spacing. There is now so much wasted space between chats. There used to be a compact option. Please bring back
This new expanded default view is terrible, revert back to how it was or give us the option to change it back. You can't see alot of message threads at once anymore.

latest version is awful! chat list fails to load the actual messages unless you scroll down and then back, and not all load. and it's less compact so it shows less chats now. the Unread filter button does not work; it randomly filters some read chats out but not all.
What Brings the Chats Back
Nobody in these reviews has a permanent fix. But they agree on what makes a missing chat show up for now. 9 reviewers say a chat appears once they tap or open it. One says it then stays put:
the last update ruined the view! can't see channel name just a timestamp. I have to click them to get them to show what they are, then they'll stay until I close the app. very annoying.
Two reviewers say scrolling down and back up loads the missing rows, though one adds that not all of them come back:
Really poor app. I was using this app in my phone pixel 11 pro. whenever I open the app , I will see completely blank chats. once I try to scroll up, then chat will appear in it
One reviewer found that turning the phone sideways and back helped:
The user interface update is mind-blowingly awful. half of the updates don't contain any text, the preview is too long, I have to put my phone into landscape and then portray just be able to read anything. This has got changed by AI written all over it, the tested part seems to be missing.
Clearing the cache is the usual advice for a broken app, and it did not work here. Two reviewers say they cleared the cache and the problem stayed. A third says clearing cache and storage after each update only means the app "MAY work right".
What You Can Do
Tap the chat you need. It is the one step that works in every review that mentions it. The name and preview load once the chat is opened, and one reviewer says they then stay until the app is closed.
Scroll down and back up after opening the app. Two reviewers say this loads the blank rows, though not always all of them.
Don't expect the cache to fix it. Two of the three reviewers who mention clearing the cache say it changed nothing.
Use Teams on a computer for a full overview. The reviews describe a problem with the Android chat list. One reviewer says the only way to see all their messages at a glance is now on a laptop.
