Does Fetch Actually Pay? 178 Bad Reviews Tested (2026)
Fetch holds 4.85 stars from 7.4 million App Store ratings, so it clearly pays somebody. We read 178 recent 1-3 star reviews across both stores to find where the payout actually breaks: game milestones that never credit, a one-time courtesy limit at support, and points that expire.
We pulled the most recent 1-3 star reviews for Fetch from both stores on 29 July 2026: 300 from Google Play (US) and 300 from the US App Store feed. After removing duplicates and one-line noise, that left 178 unique substantive negative reviews, 95 from Android and 83 from iOS. By rating: 97 one-star, 31 two-star, 50 three-star.
At that same moment Fetch held 4.75 stars from 1,638,568 ratings on Google Play with 10,000,000+ installs, and 4.85 stars from 7,474,656 ratings on the App Store. It is published by Fetch Rewards, LLC, it is ad supported, and it does not sell in-app purchases.
Those numbers decide the framing of this piece. An app that never pays does not hold 4.8 stars across nine million ratings. So "is Fetch a scam" is the wrong question. The answerable one is narrower: which part of the payout breaks, for whom, and how often?
Quick Answer
Fetch pays for receipts. Reviewers who complain about other things still mention gift cards they actually received, some of them repeatedly over several years. The receipt-scanning side of the product works for most people most of the time.
The failure is concentrated in Fetch Play, the games section. The single most common specific complaint is reaching a game milestone that is worth thousands of points and never being credited for it. Roughly a quarter of the negative reviews describe this.
The rule that turns a bug into a loss is the one-time courtesy. Multiple independent reviewers say support manually credited a missed game reward once, then refused the second time on the grounds that it had already been done once. The bug repeats. The remedy does not.
Points expire, and reviewers get caught by it. One reports losing a 30,000-point balance after a gap in scanning.
The redemption target is a moving number for some users. A small but consistent cluster says the points needed for the same gift card went up as they got closer to it.
What 178 Negative Reviews Say
Shares below are rough proportions inside the 1-3 star subset. Reviews often touch more than one theme, so they do not sum to 100.
1. Game Milestones That Never Credit (roughly 25%)
This is the dominant specific complaint, and it is worth separating from generic "app is a scam" noise because reviewers name the level, the game and the point value. That specificity is what makes it credible.
don't bother playing the games! I hit a milestone to complete a level in a game and was owed 18,306 points and when they weren't awarded on my acount I contacted customer service and they claim the reward has expired! it wasn't expired when I reached that level!
Because points were awarded manually for a game I was playing because the app didn't awarding them. They can't help getting the point for the next level the app didn't award. Lost 47,000 points that I worked to achieve
I usually love this app. I haven't received my rewards for a game when I got to level 150. I contacted customer service multiple times its been almost 2 weeks and still NO ACTION.
games offer double point promos, do not give you the double points, I contact customer service, screenshots of promo offer and the levels I reached during promo time. and they give you half the points and say they cannot manually give you the rest even if you have screenshots
Multiple games stop tracking points with no rhyme or reason resulting in lost time and money.
Note what the second and fourth reviewers are describing. They have evidence. Screenshots, a visible level number, a milestone the app itself displayed. The refusal is not a dispute about whether they earned it. It is a statement that it cannot be fixed.
2. The One-Time Courtesy Limit (the rule underneath cluster 1)
Several reviewers independently describe the same support policy, using close to the same words. That repetition across two stores is the strongest signal in this data set.
This app is good for trading receipts for gift cards. Playing the games can increase your points substantially by reaching game milestones... HOWEVER there's a chance that you will be cheated out of the Earned Milestone rewards, like I was. The first time the game didn't automatically award my points, as a One Time Courtesy, the help center added the points to my total. The second time it happened...
I keep having to contact support to get my points from match factory and them saying they can only manual do it once that's nonsense. I have surpassed level 135 for 111 points and I'm on level 146 and still haven't gotten my 111 and it's been over 48 hours
on this app for years. refusing to grant me my points in a game I reached 1000 level. They manuel gave me points before as the milestone before 1000 hadnt counted before. can only fix 1 time they never told me this or Id not of played 250 ton of ads and played levels and get nothing.
This is the finding that matters most before you invest time. A tracking bug that support will fix once is an inconvenience. A tracking bug that support will fix once, in a product where the bug recurs, is a cap on what you can recover. The last reviewer states the consequence plainly: they would not have played had they known.
3. Receipt Scanning Misses (roughly 25%)
The receipt side works, but not silently and not always.
they miss lots of e-receipt, even after you scan several times... and when you contact the help center, they do everything, except help you. it's like a tactic to wear you down so you give up!!!
For weeks I have not been awarded the 25 points for snapping receipts. After snapping & submitting. it goes to a screen where something spins & then It just goes straight back to the home screen. no messages, no points. Nothing from support.
just went to the S26 Ultra. This version of Fetch constantly misinterprets my receipts. its like it recognizes the required info to submit but it reads it like it's alien language. so instead of getting my bonus points i can only get the base 25 points
not picking up any of my cvs receipts that I get in my email
A shame you can't scan older receipts from a month or 2. I saved a bunch and now they're worthless
The last one is not a bug. Fetch requires receipts within a limited window, and saving up a stack does not work. Worth knowing before you start hoarding them.
There is also a scan cap that surprises people:
I do not feel you should be able to limit how many receipts are scanned! Especially since you are required to scanned more for each level or tier, but then we are not allowed to scan receipts.
4. The Moving Redemption Target (roughly 5%)
Small cluster, but it maps exactly onto the classic earn-app red flag, so it deserves its own heading.
its about impossible. keep raising points as I collect them to get to 50.00 cash card. started at 10,000 then when I reached 10,000, increased to over 13,000. then when I reached over 13000, it was raised to over 60,000!!! Just a cheat and unfair.
started off great got me up to 4k points then after that every receipt was only worth 25 points next reward is worth 25,000 points. definitely not worth it and won't recommend to anyone.
takes too long to earn enough points and every time I looked to redeem points the amount of points needed had gone up.
We cannot verify from reviews alone whether a specific reward tier changed or whether the reviewer switched between differently priced cards. What we can say is that three unrelated people describe the target receding as they approached it, and that the pattern is the single most reliable warning sign in this app category. Treat it as a reason to cash out early rather than to bank a large balance.
5. Points Expiring
Losing your entire point balance after just three months is frustrating. Had over 30k in reward points that were taken away because I forgot to scan a receipt before they expired. Going back to Swagbucks where I've had a running point balance for years, even after months of activity.
Fetch points lapse after a period of account inactivity. This is disclosed, but it is the kind of term nobody reads and everybody remembers afterwards. If you scan sporadically, a large saved balance is the wrong strategy.
6. Account Lockouts and Login Loops (roughly 10%)
this app puts you on a loop that doesn't let you log in if you have an existing account. no matter if you use phone number or email, keeps saying oops something went wrong
I had this app for close to 5 years. I did a reset and logged in using google instead of signing in using my email. Both sign ins are the same email. Fetch accused me of having more than one account.
Lost phone new phone same number..They refuse to give my account back with 3000 points!!!
I left my phone home over a weekend. I came back and put in what gas receipts I had and got accused of using someone else's receipts thru the app.
I got 13,000 points to get my 10 dollar Robux and then all of a sudden boom ur account is frozen
The pattern across these is that the balance and the account are the same object. Lose access to the login and the points go with it. The Google-versus-email sign-in trap is specific and avoidable: pick one sign-in method and never change it.
What Fetch Points Are Actually Worth
Reviewers put the base receipt at 25 points, and reward tiers in the tens of thousands. That is the arithmetic behind the most common sentiment in the three-star reviews: it works, it is just slow.
do not always include some items on receipt. other than that I loved them for years
was great, now less so. I used to be able to play games and had lots of choices of games to play to earn points. Now there are very few games and very few points unless you spend money.
That second review is the honest summary of the current product. The receipt path is slow but reliable. The games path is fast but is where the payout failures live. And the games path increasingly expects spending, which changes what "free rewards app" means.
How to Protect Your Points
Practical, and drawn from what actually went wrong for these reviewers.
- Cash out early and often. Redeem at the lowest tier available rather than saving toward a big card. This defuses the expiring-balance problem, the moving-target problem and the frozen-account problem in one move.
- Screenshot game milestones as you hit them. Reviewers with screenshots still got refused, but reviewers without them had nothing to argue with at all.
- Assume the manual fix works once. If a game reward fails to credit and support corrects it, treat that as your only correction for that game and decide whether to keep playing on that basis.
- Lock your sign-in method. Use the same one forever. Do not switch between Google sign-in and email sign-in on the same address.
- Scan receipts promptly. Old receipts outside the window are worth nothing, and a stack saved for later is wasted effort.
- Do not treat the balance as savings. It is a promotional balance tied to an account you do not control, and it can expire.
The Verdict
Fetch is not a fake payout app. That distinction is real and worth making, because the category is full of apps where nobody ever cashes out. Here, people cash out routinely, including people writing one-star reviews about something else.
What the 178 negative reviews describe is narrower and more specific: a games section whose milestone tracking fails often enough to generate a steady stream of complaints, a support policy that will correct that failure once, and a points balance with expiry and account-lockout risk attached. If you only scan receipts, most of this never touches you and the app is a slow but functioning rebate. If you plan to earn through Fetch Play, understand the one-time courtesy rule before you invest hours in a game.
