Snapchat Videos Turning Green: 21 Android Reviews (2026)

If your Snapchat videos on Android suddenly flash green, show green blocks, or freeze on a green screen while the sound keeps playing, your camera is probably fine. Since early October a wave of Android users have described the same thing, and most of them say it only happens inside Snapchat.

We read every recent Google Play review that describes green or flickering video to find out when it started, who it hits, and what the reviewers found out while trying to fix it.

Quick Answer: Why Are My Snapchat Videos Turning Green?

Since late September 2026, 21 Google Play reviewers say Snapchat videos on Android turn green, show green patches or flicker. 18 of them wrote from 10 to 13 October. 10 say it happens to videos they record, and 7 to snaps sent by friends, often only from one or a few specific friends. Four say the same video looks normal in their phone gallery, in WhatsApp or in other apps. Clearing the cache, restarting and updating did not fix it for anyone who tried. Snapchat replied to none of the 21.

How We Counted

We pulled the 12,000 most recent US English-language Google Play reviews of Snapchat, which reach back to 4 September 2026, and read every review that mentions green, flickering, blinking or flashing. Snapchat holds 4.19 stars from 39,810,236 ratings on Google Play and 4.51 from 5,961,810 on the App Store. Every review below is from the Android app. Many reviewers wrote from India, so we also pulled 6,000 reviews from the Indian store. It returned the same reviews as the US store, with only 2 new ones, so it added nothing.

21 reviews describe green or flickering video, 19 of them negative and 10 of them one star. The first two came on 26 and 28 September, one more on 2 October, and then 18 from 10 to 13 October. In the 1,933 negative reviews before 26 September we found none.

From 10 to 13 October these reviews were 16 of Snapchat's 348 negative reviews (4.6%).

It Hits Videos You Record

The biggest group says the problem shows up right after recording. The video plays back in Snapchat with green patches, green flashes or a green screen:

I have a Redmi Note 10 Pro running Android 12. My Snapchat has a video recording and playback bug. When I record a video on Snapchat, some parts of the video turn green and other parts look normal. The problem appears when I finish recording and play the video inside Snapchat. Important details: 1. My phone camera works perfectly. 2. Snapchat videos look normal in my phone's Gallery.

It's been three days since my Snap camera started recording a video and the green screen is blinking. I'm very disappointed. I've also reported it but it hasn't been fixed. I want to get a premium.

The first reviewer's details matter. The phone camera works, and the same video looks normal in the phone's gallery. That points at how Snapchat plays the video back, not at the camera.

I've been using it since 2019 but from past few days the video snaps are blinking and showing green screen not playing evenly even in edit screen or in chat.. please fix this issue

Or Only Snaps From Certain Friends

The second group sees green when they open snaps from other people. Five reviewers say it happens only with snaps from one or a few specific friends:

Let’s get straight to the point. Snapchat has several glitches, but the worst one is that whenever I open snaps from two specific people, the screen flickers with green lights, mostly in videos.

The Hindi reviewer says one friend's videos come with a green patch, but that friend's photos don't, and other people's videos are fine.

One reviewer noticed a pattern in who sends the broken snaps:

I'm having some bugs that doesn't allow me to see any video streaks sent from Android users friends while the iPhone friends streaks normally works, it's like whenever I open a video streak from an android friend the screen starts flickering with green screen while the sound plays normally. I tried contacting support but no one answered!!!

Another describes the flicker in more detail, and found that the same videos play normally on WhatsApp:

Hello Snapchat Support, I'm experiencing a persistent video flickering issue on my Vivo T1 4G running Android 13. Video Snaps sent by one particular friend flicker rapidly, appearing and disappearing repeatedly. The audio continues playing normally while the video flickers. The issue also occurs in the small video preview inside our chat. Here is what I've tested: • Video Snaps from my other friends work normally. • The affected videos play normally on WhatsApp.

Is It the Latest Update?

Partly. 13 of the 21 reviewers were on Snapchat 14.27.0.53, which first shows up in our sample on 7 October. From 10 to 13 October, that version wrote 35% of all Snapchat reviews (423 of 1,223) but 13 of the 18 green-video reviews. So people on the new version are hit much more often.

But it is not only that version. Five of the 18 reviews from those four days were not on it: four on older versions (13.9, 13.63, 14.24 and 14.26) and one without a version. And when only one friend's snaps turn green while everyone else's play fine, the problem may sit with how that video was sent, not only with the viewer's app. Neither Snapchat nor the reviewers know the cause, so treat this as a pattern, not a diagnosis.

The phones named in the reviews are all Android: two Redmi Note 10 Pro, one Redmi Note 9 Pro and one Vivo T1 4G.

What Reviewers Already Tried

The usual fixes did not help. Four reviewers list what they tried, and it still happens:

My Snapchat videos have been freezing and turning green since October 2. I have updated Snapchat, cleared the cache, force-stopped the app, and restarted my Redmi Note 9 Pro, but the issue is still happening with all videos. Please help me fix this issue.

Three reviewers say they reported it to Snapchat, by email, through a report or to support, and it is still not fixed:

What You Can Do

Check the video outside Snapchat. If you recorded it, save it to your phone and open it in the gallery. One reviewer says the saved video looked normal there, so the recording itself may be fine.

Ask the friend to send it another way. If only one friend's snaps turn green, try a different app. One reviewer says the same videos played normally on WhatsApp.

Don't spend an evening on the usual fixes. Clearing the cache, force-stopping, restarting and updating are all mentioned in these reviews, and none of them fixed it.

Report it anyway, but don't wait for a reply. Three reviewers reported it, and one says no one answered. A fix, if it comes, will arrive as an app update.
