Copilot Daily Limit, No Voice Chat: 722 Reviews (2026)
In September 2026 Microsoft moved Android users from the old Copilot app to a renamed Microsoft 365 app. We read 722 negative reviews since: 121 hit a new daily limit, 84 lost voice chat, 45 lost old chats. What changed and what still works.
In September 2026 Microsoft told Android users of the Copilot app that Copilot had moved. The old app became "Copilot (Legacy)", and the prompt sent people to a different listing on Google Play: the app that used to be Microsoft 365, now renamed Microsoft Copilot. People who followed the prompt found a daily message limit, no microphone button, and in many cases none of their old chats.
We read the reviews of the new app to find out what changed, how many people it hit, and what still works.
Quick Answer: Why Does Copilot Say I Reached My Daily Limit?
Since 21 September 2026, 722 Google Play reviews of the Microsoft Copilot app give it 1 to 3 stars, against about 97 a week in July. 121 of them complain about a new daily usage limit that the old Copilot app did not have, with reviewers reporting a cutoff after anywhere from 1 to 36 messages and a reset at a fixed hour. 84 say voice chat, the microphone button or read aloud is gone, and 45 say their old conversations did not come over. Microsoft replied to none of the 722.
How We Counted
We pulled the 9,000 most recent US Google Play reviews of Microsoft Copilot on 5 October 2026, covering 11 March to 4 October. The app holds 4.48 stars from 9,250,177 ratings, most of them collected while it was the Microsoft 365 office app. On the App Store the same app holds 4.70 from 1,343,163.
Since 21 September there are 1,114 reviews, 722 of them with 1 to 3 stars and 594 with one star. Weekly negative reviews ran at 92 to 108 through July and early August, rose to about 200 from mid-August, then jumped to 317 in the week of 21 September and 405 in the week of 28 September.
For each complaint we searched the 722 negative reviews with a pattern, then read every match and removed the ones about something else. The daily limit pattern, for example, returned 125 reviews. 7 of them were about a word limit, an image upload limit or an unrelated "limited", so we dropped them, and we added 3 limit complaints that the pattern missed and we found while reading other reviews. That gives 121.
| Complaint | Reviews | Share of 722 negatives |
|---|---|---|
| New daily usage limit | 121 | 16.8% |
| Voice chat, microphone or read aloud gone | 84 | 11.6% |
| Old chats missing after the switch | 45 | 6.2% |
| Projects, Notebooks or temporary chat missing | 14 | 1.9% |
| Long conversations cut off on mobile only | 13 | 1.8% |
| Mobile browser now forces the app | 8 | 1.1% |
| New brown color scheme | 7 | 1.0% |
235 reviews, 32.5% of the negatives, fall into at least one of the first five rows. Reviews can count in more than one row: 15 complain about both the limit and lost chats.
What Changed
Reviewers describe the same sequence. The old Copilot app showed a message that Copilot had moved, then opened Google Play on a different app with the same name and logo. Two noticed that the version number went backwards:
Well thabk you very much! I was on version 30, I've been forced to move and have been downgraded to version 16. There are so many more restrictions, gone from 20 image upload limit to 3, gone from continuous conversation threads to being forced to start a new chat after just hours!
The old app does not disappear right away. It stays installed as Copilot (Legacy), and some reviewers say it is the only place their history and voice still work. One reviewer explains why the change felt like a different product rather than an update:
First, this is NOT Microsoft Copilot. It's Microsoft 365. Which I do NOT want. They are discontinuing the Microsoft personal chat app soon and forcing people to install this Microsoft 365 app. I hate this app. I only can use the chat for a few minutes.
The Daily Limit
This is the largest complaint, and the one that changed the star ratings fastest. The old app let people chat for hours. The new one stops them with a message and a time to come back:
You've reached your daily limit. Get more usage now or check back at 3:30 AM.
Reviewers do not agree on how many messages they get, which matches the 3 who say the limit is not explained. Counts given in the reviews range from 1 question on the Auto setting to 36 inputs, and most say 1 to 6. One reviewer hit two different limits on consecutive days:
Getting worse by the day. First, almost unlimited access. Now, limit reached after 36 inputs. Locked out until 1 a.m. tomorrow unless I pay £85 p.a.. Today, locked out until 1 a.m. tomorrow after just 15 inputs and a single page pdf sent. Useless.
The reset times quoted are 3:30 AM and 1 AM, which suggests a fixed daily window rather than 24 hours from the first message. One reviewer says they had to wait 5 hours.
The price of removing the limit comes up repeatedly. 5 reviewers put it at $19.99 or $20 a month, and one in the UK quotes £85 a year. Paying does not remove every limit, though. A Microsoft 365 subscriber hit a usage cap on Copilot Tasks with a reset date a month away, and 3 reviewers say the cap on long conversations applies even with a premium subscription:
The last update make the Mobile app experience something not expected. One can not continue chat even with premium subscription, the message box is always blocked and you have to start another conversation always.
Voice Chat and the Missing Microphone
84 reviews say voice is gone. Most describe the same thing: the microphone button that started a spoken conversation is no longer on the chat screen. Others miss read aloud, the voice options, or Mico, the animated character from the old app (5 mention Mico by name).
The most detailed report:
After uninstalling and reinstalling the Android Copilot app, several features disappeared. The microphone button is no longer visible on the chat screen, and the Voice settings page only shows "Export WebRTC logs." Previously I could have voice conversations with Copilot, use the Cyan voice, and access voice customization features. My microphone permissions are enabled. Please investigate whether my account or app installation is missing voice features.
7 reviewers say they tried the usual fixes, and none of them got voice back: reinstalling, clearing the cache, granting microphone permission and checking for updates.
microphone icon is gone even though I made sure copilot has been granted or allowed mic permission.
For many of them voice was the reason they used Copilot at all. 11 of the 84 voice reviews also complain about the limit, and several say they are moving to ChatGPT or Gemini for hands-free use.
Old Chats That Did Not Come Over
45 reviews say conversations are missing in the new app. The pattern is consistent: the migration screen said history would sync, and part or all of it did not. One reviewer says only chats younger than about two months loaded, another lost the remaining weeks a day after losing the older months:
I was forced to move apps. They promised, that everything would get synchronized. Months of conversations are gone. Thanks for nothing... Update: One day later and the last remaining weeks are gone as well. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?
The important detail for anyone in the same position is that the chats are not necessarily deleted. Reviewers report that they are still visible in the Legacy app, in the browser and on the desktop app:
I upgraded from Copilot (Legacy) to the current app using the same Microsoft account. All of my years of chat history, ongoing projects, and stored context remain visible in Legacy but are not available in the new app. This feels like a broken migration experience. The data still exists, yet continuity between versions is missing. Please provide a way to migrate or access legacy conversations.
Not everyone lost history. 1 reviewer says all their old chats came over, and the problem for them was voice.
Long Conversations Cut Off on Mobile
A smaller group, 13 reviews, hit a different limit. Long-running chats, often stories or projects people had been building for weeks, now stop accepting messages in the app and ask for a new chat. 3 reviewers say the same chat still works on the desktop app or in a browser:
There are new restrictions on the length of conversations on the mobile app only. After a certain point, you get a message saying you need to start a new chat on the mobile app. Frustratingly, the desktop app and web browser can continue posting to the same chat without restriction.
Projects, the Browser and the Color
14 reviewers say Projects, Notebooks or temporary chats are missing from the new mobile app, even where they still exist on the desktop. 8 say they can no longer use Copilot in a phone browser because it redirects them to the app. And 7 object to the new dark theme, which several describe as brown:
Dark mode is brown. Make it black please.
What Microsoft Tells Reviewers
Nothing, in this sample. Microsoft replied to none of the 722 negative reviews since 21 September.
What You Can Do
Based on what reviewers report, these are the options.
Do not uninstall Copilot (Legacy) yet. It is the one place several reviewers still have their full chat history and working voice chat. One reviewer who removed it wrote that they wish they had not, and another tells others to keep it.
Read old chats on the web or desktop. Reviewers say chats missing from the new app still show in the browser, in Edge and in the Windows app. If you need a long conversation, copy it out from there rather than waiting for the phone app to sync.
Continue long chats on the desktop. The "start a new chat" cutoff is reported on the mobile app only. 3 reviewers say the same thread keeps going on a computer.
Do not expect reinstalling to bring voice back. None of the 7 reviewers who reinstalled, cleared the cache or checked microphone permissions got the button back. One reviewer found voice chat still available through the Bing app, which has Copilot built in, but we could not confirm that from a second review.
Know what the limit message means. It is a daily allowance, not an error, and the message tells you when it resets. Reviewers who pay report fewer limits but not none, so if long conversations are what you use Copilot for, check that before subscribing.
