Can't Cancel SiriusXM? 61 of 697 Reviews (2026)
SiriusXM holds 4.51 stars from 1,130,521 Google Play ratings. We read 697 substantial negative reviews from fourteen months and hand-verified 61 about the cancellation and billing process. 91.8% of them are one-star, the highest rate of any theme we have measured, and reported time to get out runs from 15 minutes to over a year.
Most subscription complaints are about the product. This one is about the exit. Across fourteen months of SiriusXM reviews, the single angriest cluster is not the app, the price or the channel lineup. It is people describing what happened when they tried to stop paying.
SiriusXM holds 4.51 stars from 1,130,521 Google Play ratings on more than 10 million installs, and 862,697 of those ratings, 76.3% of them, are five stars. On the App Store it holds 4.83 from 3,074,001 ratings. Underneath those numbers sits a group of reviews with a one-star rate we have not seen on any other theme we have measured.
Quick Answer: Can You Cancel SiriusXM in the App?
According to these reviewers, no. We pulled the 3,000 most recent US Google Play reviews on 1 September 2026, filtered to 697 substantial 1-3 star complaints covering fourteen months, and hand-verified 61 that describe the cancellation or billing process itself rather than simply announcing a departure. That is 8.8% of every real complaint in the window, and 56 of the 61, 91.8%, are one-star. Of the 61, 21 say they were charged after cancelling, 15 say there is no way to cancel without a person, 12 describe a chat or phone queue that makes offers instead of cancelling, 7 are about a free trial that started billing, 4 about a refused refund, and 2 about giving up and changing their card. Reported time to get out ranges from 15 minutes to over a year.
How We Read These Reviews
We pulled the 3,000 most recent US Google Play reviews for SiriusXM on 1 September 2026, along with the live store metadata. The developer is SiriusXM, the build was 7.31.0, updated 17 August 2026, and the listing declares in-app purchases.
Those 3,000 reviews cover 1 July 2025 to 31 August 2026, 426 days. Of them, 1,217 were 1-3 stars, and 697 were long enough to describe something at 120 characters or more.
The filtering here needs explaining, because the obvious count is the wrong one. Any word from cancel, refund, charge, billing, subscription, renew or trial appears in 222 of the 697. That number is useless: most of it is people saying they are going to cancel because the app is bad, which is an opinion about the app, not a report about the exit. So we narrowed to reviews that describe the process or a billing outcome, which left 81 candidates, and read every one.
Nineteen were about something else (the app, the signal, the content, the price, with cancel mentioned only as a threat). One is a counter-example we come back to at the end. That leaves 61 confirmed reviews, each assigned to exactly one category.
The Six Shapes of a SiriusXM Cancellation Complaint
| What the reviewer describes | Reviews | Share of the 61 |
|---|---|---|
| Cancelled, and charged anyway | 21 | 34.4% |
| No way to cancel without a person | 15 | 24.6% |
| The chat or call is a retention desk | 12 | 19.7% |
| A free trial that started billing | 7 | 11.5% |
| A refund that was refused | 4 | 6.6% |
| Gave up and changed the card | 2 | 3.3% |
Three numbers before the sections. Nineteen of the 61 mention a phone call, a hold or a queue and 17 mention a chat window, a bot or an agent, which together is most of the corpus: this is a complaint about a channel, not a button. Eighteen mention a free trial, usually one that came with a car, a phone plan or a promotion. And the one-star rate, 91.8%, is the highest of any theme we have measured on any app: the in-car failures in the same corpus run 59.5%.
How Long It Takes to Get Out
This is the part of the corpus worth publishing, because reviewers volunteer the number. Eleven of the 61 state how long the attempt took, and the spread is the finding.
| What they were trying to do | Reported time | Outcome as reported |
|---|---|---|
| Cancel through chat | First 10 minutes were offers | Not stated |
| Cancel through chat | 15 minutes | Cancelled |
| Cancel by phone | Over 20 minutes on hold | Gave up |
| Cancel online | 30 minutes of sales pitch | Not stated |
| Cancel via the app's Google Play instructions | Over an hour | Still not cancelled |
| Cancel by phone and online | Over 4 hours | Cancelled |
| Get a wrongly billed charge credited | 2 months | Credited |
| Cancel | Months | Still not cancelled |
| Cancel | 3 months | Still not cancelled |
| Cancel | Almost a year | Still being charged |
| Cancel | Over a year | Still being charged |
Two caveats belong with that table. These are the durations people chose to write down, so it is a table of the worst experiences reported, not an average. And every outcome is as the reviewer describes it; we cannot confirm from a review whether a subscription actually ended.
1. There Is No Way to Cancel by Yourself (15 Reviews)
The largest structural claim in the corpus, and the most consistent. Fifteen reviewers say the same thing: the app does not cancel, the website hands you to a chat, and the chat hands you to a person.
The bad: You CANNOT cancel through the app, ONLY by calling, seems shiesty. My friend pays over $20. Keeping in mind that 99% of the time I actually listen to Spotify, IF I do turn it on, I hear the
Cancel button on website makes you open a live chat to customer service (and only when they're available, not 24/7) just to cancel service, where they'll ask you to send them information _available on the website_.
for the love of God do not subscribe to this service!!! they make it nearly impossible to unsubscribe, or remove your credit card from your account. u have to go online and talk to a customer service rep to process canceling your plan.
Be careful with the trial! There is no "Cancel button." They use a tricky method to prevent you from cancelling easily, including a form, lengthy chat, requests for unrelated personal information, and long wait times.
One reviewer walked the whole path and wrote down each step, which is the most useful single review in this set.
Extremely unsavory business practices. Once you provide your billing, you can't cancel. The App will tell you to cancel online without even a link. Online, you will find you must contact an agent. In the chat, still can't cancel. According to forums, neither can anyone else.
Two describe the loop closing on itself: the app points at Google Play, Google Play points back.
I turn it on at night to listen to it during the night. After 10-15 minutes, it stops playing. This happens every night. I've been trying to cancel my subscription for over an hour. It says go to Google play. I follow the directions just to get sent back to the main screen.
SCAM. Made an account after getting a 6 month free Trial. Worst mistake of my life!! Can't access the Account at all to Cancel. Finally contact their Chat Agent who wants me to make a second Account. She tells me there's no way for me to cancel membership.
2. The Chat Is a Retention Desk (12 Reviews)
A separate group, and the one with the most specific mechanism. These reviewers reached a human or a bot and describe what happened next: not a cancellation, an offer.
Goodluck trying to cancel your subscription in a timely manner. they make you text an Ai assistant then they make you text with a real person that will not cancel the subscription before trying to make you take "offers"/"deals" for the first 10 minutes. God awful service.
It's is very difficult to cancle this service. The chat seems to be some AI customer retention nonsense that will loop you endlessly. Make sure you get a confirmation on canceling. Calling i waited on hold for over 20 minutes and gave up.
You can't cancel your subscription online, instead they make you contact a customer support rep which will spend the next 30min trying to sell you products. This is the most predatory company Ive ever dealt with.
I can not be satisfied with an app that traps you into continuing when you cant or dont want to! I have been trying to cancel for months and it keeps saying wait!!! you got one more option!!! I don't want that!
Two of the twelve describe being routed onward rather than refused.
This is the worst service I've ever seen. Got a free trial and, after completely disliking the service, tried to cancel. for my surprise, we cannot cancel without speaking to an agent!!
unbelievable bad service. I was offered a promo of 5$ a month after the free term expired in my new truck so I took it. I will not pay 30$ a month for radio so I called to cancel and it was this whole ordeal, well we have this package and that package. um I said CANCEL.
And two put a duration on it that is hard to read as anything but a design choice.
Great until you try to cancel. I liked it for the most part. Phone app is better than the car app(more stations) but I was told it's practically impossible to cancel, so I figured I would cancel and get it back later. It took over 4 hours to cancel.
Just got this, and I'm really enjoying it. The sound is excellent, and being able to listen on all my devices is a huge plus. Edit: I have been trying to cancel my sub for 3 MONTHS now and am unable to do so. Unless you plan on being stuck with it forever, don't sibscribe.
3. Cancelled, and Charged Anyway (21 Reviews)
The largest category and the one with an actual dollar consequence. Twenty one reviewers say they completed a cancellation and the billing continued.
Charged my checking after I canceled their service. I canceled my subscription in December and was charged again in January, I do not use the service and do not want it, why pay to listen to radio with ads when I can pay for Spotify with
Bad service. I won a free trial, installed, gave my information, canceled or what i thought was a cancelation, said i successfully canceled on my end but ended up still getting charged after the fact.
scam I have already cancelled my free 90 days subscription before the end period and I am still being charged I will report this into the FTC trade commission.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - I've canceled service numerous times and they continue to charge my credit card. UPDATE: I'm now being harassed by this company. I'm receiving numerous phone calls a day saying I owe them money.
The most precise account in this group is a reviewer who cancelled 29 days before their trial ended and was billed the next morning.
I received a free 6 month trial with my phone carrier. Yesterday I get an email saying that in 30 days my trial would end and that if I didn't cancel, I would be charged. I immediately went to my account, manage subscription and cancelled. I don't even listen to Sirius XM.
I really enjoy the music channels but billing, you got to watch, especially if you have the free trial version. Make sure you cancel at least 3 days in advance if you are not going to continue with it. I cancelled the night before and it took me 2 months to get them to credit my account as they kept charging me.
Two describe billing that outlived the account entirely, which is the version of this complaint that runs longest.
this ap is garbage, I got a free 6 month subscription from a Time Hortons Roll up the rim a year ago month 7 I saw money come out of my account which I never authorized and I've been trying to cancel the subscription for almost a year and keep getting told a manager will call me
I never subscribe to this app , have been trying to cancel,, to no avail for the fact being, they do not have correct name. They do not have correct phone number that you do not have correct anything. So there is no existing account yet.
One reports the opposite failure, a cancellation nobody asked for followed by a charge, and it is worth including because it points the same way: the billing state and the account state disagree.
thanks for canceling my subscription with no warning or reason. makes it A LOT easier to not use SxM anymore. to add on. they randomly charged me 50 bucks a month later, saying my account was "inactive" but the subscription was still there. 50 bucks.
4. The Free Trial That Started Billing (7 Reviews)
Eighteen of the 61 mention a free trial somewhere, but for seven the trial is the complaint. The pattern is a promotion attached to something else, a car, a phone plan, a coffee cup, that turns into a subscription the reviewer did not knowingly start.
I just bought a brand new vehicle that has Sirius XM free trial for 6 months. As soon as I downloaded the app it made me purchase a membership, but I was supposed to have a free 6-month trial. Google refuses to give me a refund and Sirius XM tells me that I need to speak to Google for the refund.
so my 3 month free trial expired after only a few days. I refuse to create a social media profile just to contact customer support. I signed up thru Google play and it said my subscription was not acknowledged by Sirius.
So, SiriusXM uses a third party to collect payment. I am not sure if I knew this at the get-go. Second, the "FREE TRIAL" is N O T free. That's right! You heard me correctly. Google play CHARGES for those 7 days.
Four of the 61 also name a third party in the billing chain, usually Google Play, and describe each side pointing at the other. We cannot adjudicate that from a review, and we are not going to try. What the corpus supports is that the split makes the exit harder to find.
5. Refused Refunds (4) and the Card Workaround (2)
The two smallest groups, and together they are where the corpus ends up. Four reviewers say a refund was refused outright.
Had a free trial for 7 days . I cancelled the membership within 48 hours of the free week. 4 payments were charged without my consent. Called in and was told no charges were made. Escalated and spoke to a Manager (named TAREK) who said that yes, charges (4) were indeed made.
Billing is a scam, bait and switch the price, they bank on you missing the end of promo pricing, they'll take over 3 times the cost and refuse to refund.
They are a crook company, they make canceling or adjusting your service harder than Planet Fitness lol. They will call you and set up a monthly payment that is one price and then without any notification jacked it up to 400%.
Two describe the last resort, which is not cancelling the subscription but disabling the payment method.
just not what I expected, plus I can't cancel this service. I'm going to have to change my debit card number in order to cancel it. They won't let me cancel them in normal ways.
Horrible, wanted to trial it so I signed up for the free trial. I didn't like it so I figured I'll just go remove my debit card but they want you to jump through hoops to do so. quick to get you to add it but not so quick to remove it.
Counting the reviewer in section 3 who locked and replaced a card, four of the 61 report changing or blocking a card or bank account to stop the billing, and two say they intend to report the charges. That is a small number and we are not going to inflate it, but it is the clearest measure of how the corpus ends: not with a cancellation, with a bank.
This Is Not a Bad Update
It would be convenient to blame a release. The data does not allow it. The 61 confirmed reviews carry 27 different version labels, sixteen of them with no label at all, and no single build accounts for more than five. The monthly share swings between 1.7% and 19.5% with no direction, on denominators between 25 and 84 reviews, which is exactly what noise looks like.
That is the point rather than a disappointment. A regression shows up in one release and gets fixed. This complaint is spread evenly across fourteen months and more than two dozen builds, which is what a policy looks like rather than a bug.
One Review Says It Worked
We found exactly one review in the 81 candidates that describes the cancellation succeeding easily, and it deserves the same space as the complaints because it names the route that worked.
I want to cancel the service before the free trial expires but it seemed to be impossible. I used the suggested web site and canceling was easy.
That is a three-star review from July 2026. It is one account against sixty one, so it settles nothing, but it is consistent with what the successful cancellations in section 2 describe: the ones who got out did it on the website, not in the app.
The Same Complaint in French and Spanish
We scanned 40 Google Play storefronts. Twenty six returned nothing we had not already collected, and nine of those returned no reviews at all because the service is not sold there. The rest produced only 36 substantial negative reviews in total, which is what you expect from a North American service.
Ten of those 36 mention cancelling, and six describe the process rather than the decision. Six is a small number and we are flagging it as such. What makes it worth a section is that all six land in the same three categories as the US corpus, in two other languages.
A seventh reviewer in the French Canadian store, writing in both English and French, reports being told cancellation is available online, then being told the phone number on the account was wrong, then having to call and insist five separate times before the agent accepted the cancellation. An eighth cancelled immediately to avoid forgetting, lost the remaining four free months on the spot, and then found that the app's own "delete account" link did not close the account.
Step 1: Cancel on the Website, Not in the App
No cancellation in this corpus succeeded inside the app. The ones that worked went through the website or through a person reached from it, and the app-first attempts are the ones that end in a loop back to Google Play. Start at your account page on siriusxm.com rather than in the app, and expect the cancel control to open a chat rather than complete the cancellation by itself.
Step 2: Decide in Advance What You Will Say No To
Twelve reviewers describe reaching a chat or a call and being offered a discount, a different package or a pause instead of a cancellation. One reports the offers taking the first ten minutes; one says they had to insist five times. Going in expecting that turns a frustrating surprise into a script: repeat the word cancel, decline each offer, and do not negotiate a lower price unless you actually want the service at that price.
Step 3: Get Written Confirmation Before You Close the Window
This is the single most repeated piece of practical advice in the corpus, and it comes from a reviewer who learned it the hard way. Twenty one people here believed they had cancelled and were charged anyway, and several describe having nothing to show for the attempt. Ask for a confirmation number or an email in the same session, and note one reviewer's warning that the confirmation email took five days to arrive.
Step 4: Cancel Well Before the Renewal Date, Not On It
One reviewer cancelled 29 days before their trial ended and was billed the following day. Another cancelled the night before renewal and spent two months getting the charge credited. A third recommends allowing at least three days. Whatever the true cutoff is, the corpus is consistent that cancelling on the deadline is where the disputes start.
Step 5: Check the Next Two Statements
Twenty one of these 61 reviews exist because somebody stopped checking after the cancellation. The charges people describe arrive one month later, four months later, and in two cases more than a year later. Put a reminder on the next two billing dates, and if a charge appears after a confirmed cancellation, four reviewers here report that blocking or replacing the card was what finally stopped it.
