Brigit Charged Me After Cancelling: 92 Reviews (2026)
Reviewers cancel the Brigit subscription and the monthly fee keeps arriving. We read 586 substantial negative Google Play reviews: 92 are about cancelling and billing, 88% of them are one star, and the rate has not moved in seven months.
Cancelling a Brigit subscription is not the hard part. Getting the charges to stop is. That distinction runs through almost every negative review we read, and the reviewers who are angriest are not the ones who were refused an advance. They are the ones who cancelled, watched one more payment leave their account, and could not find a human to ask about it.
you can stop your subscription and close your account and they will still charge you the 8.99 monthly fee. scam artists.
I cancelled this app months ago. Why are you still taking money for a monthly subscription? I haven't used Brigit in months!!
What We Read
We pulled the 4,000 newest Google Play reviews of Brigit from the United States store, dated 17 February 2026 to 4 September 2026, a 198 day window. 1,138 are one to three stars and 586 are substantial, meaning at least 120 characters rather than a rating with a word attached.
108 of the 586 mention cancelling, unsubscribing, or being charged after cancelling. We read all 108 by hand and set aside 16 that turned out to be about something else: the size of the advance, a repayment date, an overdraft with no cancellation claim attached, a bank connection problem, two people quoting other reviews rather than their own experience, and one complaint about the app's review prompt.
That leaves 92 verified complaints, 15.7% of the substantial negative set, and 81 of the 92 are one star, or 88.0%. For comparison, the app holds 4.78 stars from 392,657 Google Play ratings and 4.84 from 556,263 App Store ratings, so this is a small, loud, and very consistent minority.
Inside the 92, the claims sort into three groups. They overlap: nine reviews make two of them.
| What the review claims | Reviews | One star |
|---|---|---|
| Money was taken after they cancelled | 55 | 89% |
| They were told they owe one more billing cycle | 17 | 88% |
| They could not find a way to cancel at all | 29 | 90% |
Group One: Cancelled, Then Charged Anyway
Fifty five reviews say the money moved after the cancellation. The detail that repeats is that these are small amounts, named precisely, by people who are using a cash advance app because small amounts matter.
signed up, and immediately cancelled and deleted my account. they still charged me 8.99. unable to contact anyone.
The app is fine, but I canceled my account months ago and am still getting charged a monthly fee.
Don't use the app if you cancel your subscription they will still charge your bank. Worst experience ever. There is no direct customer service just an AI bot.
doesn't matter if you cancel the subscription or not. they will help themselves to your bank account. I had it for 2 weeks, a month ago and I've got 2 subscription charges from them.
scam app, I keep canceling premium and they keep re-signing me up when I don't even have the app on my phone, they've stolen money multiple times by taking money for a subscription I have canceled over and over.
Two of them are about downgrading rather than cancelling, which is the same failure with a different button.
After not benefiting from the Brigit app at all I changed my subscription from $8.99 a month to the free subscription. Of course, fewer benefits. They STILL charged me $8.99.
When I look up the info in Brigit app settings it says FREE, but Brigit keeps charging my card $14.99, every month.
Group Two: The Extra Month Is Described As Policy
This is the group that makes the first group harder to dismiss. Seventeen reviewers do not say a charge appeared unexpectedly. They say they were told, in the app or by support, that one more payment was due after the cancellation, because billing runs to the end of the period.
Terrible. The advance never went up, it charged a sub just to use it, which is all part of the game, i get it. But, billing at the end of the month, so you get a charge after you've canceled is ridiculous.
They charge $8.99 for a subscription, only advance $50 + charge a $2.99 express fee. Then, when you try to cancel the subscription, they tell you that you will be charged a "final" $8.99 subscription fee.
I canceled my subscription on April 29 after they took another payment out. Then I was told my final payment would be on May 29. WHY?? I canceled it on the same date with NO money advances.
I seemed to have been signed in for a subscription. I had this app for 2 weeks. I didn't use it. I was charged, so I went back to cancel only to be told I would be charged once more for a final fee.
Disappointed Defeats the purpose of borrowing money if I have to pay a monthly fee. Even after canceling the monthly fee isn't due for a week, it states I still have to pay next month's fee.
We cannot verify what any individual was told. What we can say is that seventeen people, across seven months, independently describe being charged a final cycle they did not think they had agreed to, and that this is the most likely explanation for a large share of the fifty five reviews in group one. A person who cancels on the sixth and sees a charge on the first is describing the same event from the other side.
Group Three: There Was No Way Out
Twenty nine reviews say the cancellation itself did not happen: there was no visible option, the flow ended in an error, or a balance blocked it. Ninety percent of them are one star, the highest rate of the three groups.
I have had this app twice. I cannot cancel the subscription and I keep having bank fees for their overdraft of their subscription fees. there is no way to cancel in app, nor info on how to do so.
This is a scam website. There's no place to cancel and delete account. It just gives you the run around while syphoning money off your account.
Not happy, been trying to cancel, going on 5 months. Shouldn't be so hard just to cancel.
SCAM ALERT ONCE YOU GET THE SUBSCRIPTION ITS IMPPSSOBLE TO SIMPLY CANCEL.ITS AMAZING ONE CLICK GETS YOU IN BUT 100 CLICKS TO GET OUT.I HAD TO MAKE MY BANK PUT STOP PAYMENTS.
Two reviews describe the specific version of this that matters most: you cannot close the account while an advance is outstanding, so the subscription keeps billing while you try to settle it.
They refused to delete my account and have been withdrawing funds for over a year on subscription that I cancelled in 2024.
the worst cash advanced app there is. want you to sign up to a premium acct. to get your advanced faster. that's a lie. I will never recommend or use this app. it hasn't even sent me my advanced and its saying I have to repay before I cancel anything how do I repay if you n3ver sent it.
And one reviewer reports a price attached to leaving.
buyer beware my first time seeing this app & you have been billing me monthly & want to charge me 25$ to cancel
A second reviewer describes the same thing with a different number, saying they were told to pay $21.96 to cancel. We cannot confirm what either figure was, and read literally the likeliest explanation is an outstanding advance being settled rather than a fee for leaving. Two reviews out of 586 is not a pattern, and we are including it as something to check on your own statement rather than as a finding.
Nobody Can Get A Person On The Phone
19 of the 92 mention the support experience directly, and they describe the same thing: an AI assistant, no phone number, and email that goes unanswered. This is what turns a nine dollar billing dispute into a review.
Their customer service is nonexistent and all you get is an AI chat bot that repeats itself over and over. its impossible to talk to an actual human in regards to anything.
horrible..charges monthly fee to get an advance..never get a human from support...and they make it EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to cancel that monthly
I have literally had this app for 2 months it charges me for membership I didn't sign up for there's no phone number to call to cancel it it set so the bank can't cancel it it's overdrafted my bank account twice 35 the first time and 70 this time
The last one names the real cost. Two reviewers in the wider set report bank overdraft fees triggered by a subscription charge they were not expecting, and 33 of the 586 substantial negatives mention an overdraft, an NSF fee or a bank fee somewhere in the story.
This Is Not A Bug That Appeared In One Release
We checked whether the cancellation complaints cluster around a date, the way a broken build usually does.
| Month | Substantial negatives | Cancellation complaints | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feb 2026 | 35 | 5 | 14.3% |
| Mar 2026 | 76 | 14 | 18.4% |
| Apr 2026 | 79 | 8 | 10.1% |
| May 2026 | 70 | 12 | 17.1% |
| Jun 2026 | 102 | 13 | 12.7% |
| Jul 2026 | 98 | 22 | 22.4% |
| Aug 2026 | 120 | 18 | 15.0% |
Seven months, a range of 10.1% to 22.4%, and no trend in either direction. February and September are partial months at the edges of the window, so ignore them. The version breakdown says the same thing: the four builds with at least twenty substantial negatives run 16.7%, 10.0%, 27.3% and 12.1%, in release order.
A bug produces a step. A policy produces a line. This is a line, and that is the most useful thing in the data, because it means waiting for the next update will not change your outcome.
What You Are Paying For
The rest of the negative set explains why people cancel in the first place, and it is worth reading before you subscribe rather than after.
Across the substantial negatives, $8.99 is named 36 times and $50 is named 36 times. Those two numbers are the whole product for most of these reviewers: a monthly fee on one side, an advance that never grows on the other. 26 reviews say the advance stayed at $50 no matter how long they paid or how much their income rose. 20 mention the separate express or instant transfer fee, most often $2.99.
Got approved for a cash advance once and paid the subscription fee. Guess what, never got approved again but they keep charging me the fee and won't give me a refund despite cancelling before the next cycle starts.
I had the app for 11 months never got a loan paid 9$ a month never used their service never got approved for a $50 loan.
Still charges you 8.99$ for plus, even if they don't approve you for cash advance.
I really liked the app at first since I got approved for a cash advance and figured id use it monthly. when I went to use it the 2nd month suddenly I wasn't approved for an advance anymore despite no changes.
I've been paying $8.99 a month since the beginning of time. I haven't used the app in, I can't remember when. I log on today to cancel it, and as usual, I'm offered $50.00.
Seven reviews state the trap in its cleanest form: they paid the membership fee specifically to unlock an advance, and then were not approved for one. The fee is charged whether or not the advance is.
If You Are Trying To Cancel Right Now
None of this is advice from Brigit and none of it is guaranteed to work. It is what the people in this review set say they did, and what they say happened next.
- Settle the outstanding advance first if you can. Two reviewers report that an unpaid balance is what blocked account deletion, and one says it kept billing for over a year while the balance sat there.
- Screenshot the cancellation confirmation. Several reviewers say support later had no record of the cancellation on their end, and one states plainly that you should keep a record of cancelling.
- Expect one more charge and check for it. Seventeen people in this set were told the current period would still be billed, so cancelling the day after a charge buys a month of notice, not a refund.
- Watch the account for two cycles rather than one. The reviews that describe two charges after cancellation are the ones where nobody looked again until the second one landed.
- A stop payment at the bank is the last resort people actually used. One reviewer says that is what finally worked and another had to close a bank account of eight years, which is why it is last on this list.
The Same Complaint In Spanish
We ran a second pass across 24 storefronts and added 274 reviews that were not in the United States English set, most of them from the Spanish language listing. The substantial negatives there are few, and they say the same two things.
One of them puts the asymmetry better than any of the English reviews did: verification is slow enough to block the advance for days, and never slow enough to block the fee.
The Short Version
Brigit's rating is high and most people who use it do not write reviews at all. But among the people who do write a substantial negative review, one complaint in six is about cancellation and billing, nearly nine in ten of those are one star, and the rate has not moved in seven months. If you subscribe, treat the fee as something you have to actively stop rather than something that stops when you do.
The full review breakdown for both platforms is on our app pages for Brigit on Android and on iOS. We also keep a cancellation and refund guide for Brigit with the current Google Play and App Store steps, and a trust summary.
If you are comparing options rather than leaving one, we ranked the main cash advance apps by complaint volume, and looked at Cleo's advance approvals and Klarna's pay later terms in the same way. The subscription that will not stop is not unique to lending either: Swagbucks payouts produce the same shape of complaint from the other direction.
