Uber Eats Refund Denied: 114 Reports, 8 Languages (2026)
Uber Eats holds 4.64 stars from 7,771,573 Google Play ratings. We read 10,667 reviews across 20 storefronts: 114 of the 993 English negatives describe asking for money back and not getting it, and 25 reviews in 8 languages quote the same ineligibility line.
If Uber Eats told you your order was "not eligible for a refund" after the food never showed up, arrived wrong, or arrived inedible, that sentence is not unusual and it is not local to you. We found it quoted back, word for word, in eight languages.
Uber Eats holds 4.64 stars from 7,771,573 Google Play ratings on 100 million plus installs. The iOS app is rated 4.78 from 10,665,155 ratings. Those are healthy numbers, and they are averages of everything: every order that arrived hot and on time is in there too. This article is only about what happens in the negative reviews when an order goes wrong and money is at stake.
Quick Answer: Why Does Uber Eats Refuse My Refund?
Reviewers describe four refusal patterns, and the most common one is a flat ineligibility message rather than a decision anyone explains. The others: a partial payout instead of the full amount, a credit on the account instead of money back on the card, and a support loop where an automated agent closes the case as resolved. Photo evidence does not reliably change the outcome. Twelve reviewers in our set say they submitted photos or a receipt and were refused anyway.
We cannot see the rules the app applies, so treat any mechanism as inference. What is measurable is how often people report each outcome, and in how many countries.
What We Read
We pulled the 3,000 most recent Google Play reviews from the US storefront and kept the 993 rated 1 to 3 stars with real text in them. They run from 22 July to 21 August 2026, which is how fast this app accumulates reviews: one month of complaints fills a 3,000-review pull.
Then we repeated the pull across 19 other storefronts in 14 languages. After removing duplicates, the combined corpus is 10,667 unique reviews, 6,891 of them rated 1 to 3 stars, and 3,503 of those long enough to categorise.
Two notes on reading it honestly. The US storefront returns the global English pool, so some of the reviews quoted below mention pounds, euros or rand: they are English-language reviews, not necessarily US ones. And because the store returns reviews newest first, raw counts measure the collection window, not how angry anyone is.
114 of 993 Describe Asking for Money Back and Not Getting It
A keyword pass over the 993 English negatives flagged 121 reviews describing a refusal, a partial payout, or a refund that never arrived. We then read all 121. Seven were dropped: two were cut off by the store's character limit before the outcome was stated, one said the refund was a hassle rather than refused, one described being refunded, and three were about something else entirely.
That leaves 114, or 11.5 percent of the English negative reviews. Here is what those 114 orders were. These are keyword groupings and they overlap: an order can be both late and missing an item.
| What went wrong | Reviews |
|---|---|
| Order never arrived, or was marked delivered and was not | 23 |
| Items missing, or the wrong order entirely | 22 |
| Food arrived cold, spilled, burnt or inedible | 20 |
| A cancellation dispute, by the user or by Uber | 18 |
| Overcharged, double charged, or a promo not applied | 6 |
The Sentence That Repeats: "Not Eligible for a Refund"
This is the finding that made the article worth writing. Seven of the 114 quote the ineligibility wording back verbatim. Across the entire 10,667-review corpus, 25 reviews in 8 languages quote it, which means it is not one agent's phrasing. It is a screen.
no real customer service. an order arrived and in the box was only fries and no sandwich and it said my order was not eligible for a refund. terrible
My order was never delivered and driver did call and when I picked up the phone he said nothing then I immediately went outside, but there was no one there. Uber eats says I am not eligible for a refund.... why because I never received my order.
I ordered from Costa, and one of my drinks was missing. This has happened before, but you can just let Uber know, and get a refund. However, this time, I was told the order wasn't eligible for a refund. I provided pictures of the food I received and my receipt, but was told by customer support that I couldn't get a refund.
Good luck try to get help if the order never arrives. I have read your reply and what you need is not a survey for this, rather actual customer service like Wolt does. Now there's a new thing where they keep claiming that the order is not eligible for a refund while the restaurants blatantly abuse this policy to send incorrect items or not send them at all.
The localised versions of the same line, by storefront: English 11 (ten in the English pool, one written in English from the Korean store), Polish 7, Dutch 2, and one each in German, French, Russian, Japanese and Korean. Polish is the outlier, and the Polish reviews are the bluntest.
The word lists we searched are not equally complete in every language, so read the language spread as evidence that the refusal exists everywhere, not as a precise ranking of where it is worst.
Photos and Receipts Do Not Reliably Help
12 of the 114 say they submitted a photo, a receipt, or both, and were refused anyway. This matters because the app asks for exactly that evidence when you report a problem.
Two orders, two failures. First, my driver never came to my address but somehow marked my order delivered without my required 4-digit PIN. Uber refused a refund. I gave them another chance, and they delivered someone else's order.
ridiculous service, more than one occasion had the wrong order delivered and they refuse a refund even with photo evidence, and then only offer a $2 credit
One star. I reported a serious food-quantity issue immediately, with clear photos, the receipt and order number. After an automated rejection, I escalated the case through Uber’s official Facebook support.
One reviewer was refused for the opposite reason, which is its own kind of answer.
delivered entire wrong order after neaely 2 hour wait. driver gave no receipt. uber refusing refund becausethe driver didn't give me a receipt. do not use uber. use door dash or go yourself not worth the risk
Partial Payouts and Credits Instead of Money
10 of the 114 report getting something back, but not what they lost. Some name the numbers.
Terrible customer service. I spent $33 on food, sent them pics of the broken bag and a gravy-covered fork from the spill, and they said no refund. The best they could do was $10 credit. What's the point of Uber One if they can't even get that right?
I ordered a $4 lemonade that was never delivered. I contacted customer service, and they refunded only half the cost, refused to make it right, and then closed my ticket.
Unreliable and all customer service is automated nonsense. It takes forever to connect with a human agent and the only solution that's offered is credit. No actual refunds, just app credit so they keep you stuck on the app.
The credit-instead-of-cash complaint travels. A Japanese reviewer describes a 1,780 yen order settled with 500 yen in points.
The Support Loop
18 of the 114 name a bot, an AI agent, automated replies or canned scripts as the thing they were arguing with. Across all 993 English negatives, 108 mention automated support. It is the second half of nearly every refund story in this set.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I had an order arrive that was stone cold, only option for support was a chat bot, and only canned responses. No refund available although food was inedible. Will be going back to doordash!
when things go right, this app is pretty good. but when things go wrong, you will feel less appreciated than a red headed step child. I've had food missing from multiple orders only for Uber to tell me "that sucks." No course of refund, you're just dealing with an AI who is built to make you go away.
Four Reviewers Went to Their Bank
4 of the 114 describe a card chargeback. One reports what happened next, and it is the reason a chargeback belongs at the end of the list rather than the start.
don't use. they charge double than my reciept shows, then refuse to refund me the difference. had to chargeback and got banned.
food never arrives on time. orders consistently missing items. uber will not refund the full amount of the missing items and will argue about it and waste your time until you give up on trying to get your money back.

The stories underneath are the same three: the food did not come, the money did not come back, and nobody would say why.

The Korean review is the most specific about a deadline: the reviewer says they were told the request came outside a 48 hour window, after support itself had taken days to reply. A reviewer on the Dutch storefront, writing in English, states the same 48 hour rule from experience, and a separate English review describes being told a complaint filed inside 48 hours was logged as outside it.
Step 1: Report It From the Order Screen the Same Day
Every deadline mentioned in these reviews is measured in hours, not days. Reviewers who waited until the next day describe being told the window had closed. Report the problem from the order itself while it is still the most recent one in your account.
Step 2: Photograph What Arrived Before You Move It
Twelve reviewers were refused despite sending evidence, and the ones who got the full amount back describe having it ready before support asked. Photograph the bag as it arrived, the receipt or packing slip, and the items that are missing in the same frame as the ones that came.
Step 3: Say the Amount You Want Back
Reviews describing partial payouts read the same way: the reviewer reported a problem, and support decided the size of the remedy. The ones who got the full amount named it. Write the specific item, its price, and the total you are asking for.
Step 4: Ask for a Human, Once, in Writing
Eighteen reviewers in this set describe arguing with an automated agent. Ask for escalation to a human agent in the chat, and keep the transcript. Repeated new chats reset the conversation; several reviewers describe each new agent closing the case as resolved.
Step 5: Treat the Chargeback as the Last Move
If the platform will not resolve it, your card issuer can. Reviewers who did this describe recovering the money through the bank, and at least one lost the Uber account with it. Use it when you are done with the service, not when you still want to order from it next week.
What We Cannot Verify
We can count what reviewers report. We cannot confirm any individual order, whether a driver delivered to the right door, or whether the refusal was correct in a given case. Someone who lied about a missing item and someone who lost 40 dollars of dinner both write the same one-star review, and store reviews cannot separate them. Refunds that were granted quietly also do not generate reviews, so the negative pool systematically overweights refusals.
What survives that: 114 of 993 English negative reviews describe not getting money back, the same ineligibility line is quoted in 8 languages, evidence did not reliably change the outcome, and support automation is named in nearly a fifth of the refusal reports.
Bottom Line: Is Uber Eats Worth Using?
The risk these reviews describe is not a late dinner. It is paying 30 to 130 dollars for food that never arrives and being told, by a screen, that the order does not qualify for a refund. If you use it, the cheap protections are the boring ones: report problems the same day, photograph what arrived, name the amount, and know that the card issuer is the backstop the app does not advertise.
