Samsung Health 7.0: 773 Reviews Blame the Update (2026)
Samsung Health holds 3.16 stars from 1,578,667 Google Play ratings, and 3,243 of its 4,000 most recent US reviews are 1-3 stars. We read the 2,082 substantial ones. 773 blame the 7.0 redesign, and sorting by installed build shows the first 7.0 release averaging 1.74 stars against 2.57 for the last 6.x.
Samsung Health is installed on more than a billion devices and rates 3.16 stars. In the 4,000 most recent US Google Play reviews, 3,243 are one, two or three stars. That is 81% of everything people wrote, and 2,208 of the 4,000 are one-star on their own.
I have been using Samsung health for as long as I remember. the recent updates were disastrous. From 4.3 to 4.6 star rating it is now on 3.2 star. Better consider bringing back the old version
This new version is so incredibly horrible, I don't have words. I had the old version dialed in, everything was working & they just completely ruined the app.
Reviews carry the build the writer had installed, which turns a pile of complaints into something you can actually check. This piece is mostly that check, and then the short list of things that reviewers say actually helped.
What We Read
We pulled the 4,000 most recent US Google Play reviews for Samsung Health on 7 September 2026, along with the live store metadata. The listing shows 3.16 stars from 1,578,667 ratings on more than a billion installs. There is no App Store listing, so everything below is Android and Galaxy only.
Because the app collects reviews fast, those 4,000 cover only 20 June 2026 to 6 September 2026, 78 days. Of them, 3,243 were 1-3 stars, and 2,082 were long enough to describe something at 120 characters or more. Every count below comes from those 2,082.
One thing that rate does not mean. An 81% negative rate in the newest 4,000 reviews is not the app's rating. It is what the people writing right now are writing, and people write when something breaks. The lifetime average is 3.16, which is itself unusually low for a first-party app of this size, but it is not 81%.
Quick Answer: Is It the Update?
Mostly, yes, and the review metadata says so more precisely than any single complaint does. A screen for update-broke-it, redesign and bring-back-the-old-one language returned 773 of the 2,082 substantial complaints, 37.1%, and 536 of those, 69.3%, are one-star. Sorting the same 4,000 reviews by the build the reviewer had installed shows the first 7.0 release averaging 1.74 stars and the newest one averaging 2.32, with the last 6.x build still ahead of all of them at 2.57. Within the redesign cluster the most common subject is the watch, in 193 of the 773, followed by lost or unfindable data in 189 and layout complaints in 146.
The Build Table Is the Story
Every Google Play review carries the app version the reviewer had installed. Group the 4,000 by that field and the picture is unusually clean.
| Build | Reviews | Average stars | One-star share | 1-3 star share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7.00.0.107 | 1,279 | 1.74 | 62.8% | 89.4% |
| 7.00.5.009 | 515 | 1.96 | 55.3% | 85.0% |
| 7.00.6.003 | 1,546 | 2.32 | 48.7% | 74.3% |
| 6.32.0.001 | 129 | 2.57 | 39.5% | 68.2% |
Two things to read out of that, and one not to.
The first is that the 7.0 line is recovering. Between the earliest 7.0 build in this window and the newest, average stars move from 1.74 to 2.32 and the one-star share drops 14 points. Somebody is fixing things.
The second is that recovery has not caught up. The last 6.x build in the window still scores higher than every 7.0 build, on 129 reviews.
What you should not read out of it is that the update caused the rating. People still on an old build are a self-selected group, and so is everyone who writes a review at all. The comparison that carries real weight is the one inside the 7.0 line, where three builds a few weeks apart are being judged by equally motivated people, and that comparison says the same thing the reviews do: the first release was the worst one.
Version labels are the reviewer's installed build rather than the build they are describing, so the error runs one way. It blurs the picture, it does not invent one.
The Month Table Says the Same Thing More Quietly
| Month | Substantial complaints | Update broke it | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| June 2026 (from the 20th) | 355 | 92 | 25.9% |
| July 2026 | 979 | 179 | 18.3% |
| August 2026 | 678 | 72 | 10.6% |
| September 2026 (to the 6th) | 70 | 9 | 12.9% |
The share of complaints that blame the update falls by more than half across the window while the app keeps collecting complaints at a high rate. That is what a rollout looks like after the first wave: the people who were going to be angry about the change have mostly said so, and what is left is the ordinary business of an app that a billion people open.
1. The Watch Half: 193 of the 773
The single most common subject inside the redesign cluster is not a screen. It is a watch that stopped talking to the phone.
the app used to sync my watch data with my phone but now it isn't it says "couldn't open Samsung health on phone". the energy score option is not working at all, the workout sessions are only in my watch and are not syncing with the phone app, same with heart rate,
My Watch 7 is not connecting properly in this app, after clicking the watch icon in this app it is showing the old galaxy wearable app with a message "your device is not compatible".Health data, heart rates etc are not syncing.
This app used to work amazing and sync seamlessly with my Galaxy Watch. The past week my Watch and phone will not sync together in the health app. Checked all my permissions, uninstall and reinstall the app still nothing.
the earlier version was working great with Samsung Watch 8 but with new version it does not synch properly with Samsung watch 8. keep on showing messgae as you need watch greater than 7 version??
was great until the latest update. latest UI is virtually unusable compared to the previous one. data from watch doesn't sync anymore unless done manually. i open the app maybe once a week now compared to several times a day before.
A strict screen for sync failure across the whole corpus returns 132 reviews, 6.3%. The looser watch-plus-connection screen returns far more, but most of those are people mentioning a watch rather than reporting a broken one, which is why we are quoting the strict set and reporting both numbers.
One error string recurs across languages, which is the strongest evidence in this piece that a specific bug exists rather than a general mood. A Russian reviewer names both the exact build and the exact message.
Russianпосле последнего обновления 7.00.6.003 данные с приложения Health на Galaxy Watch 4 перестали синхронизироваться с приложением Health на смартфоне. часы пишут "Не удалось открыть приложение Health на телефоне"
2. Where the Data Went: 189 of the 773
The second largest subject inside the cluster is data that reviewers cannot find, and 81 reviews in the full corpus say history was lost rather than misplaced.
I would LOVE to know when all these "new" features will start working on my app? New Features say I don't have a compatible watch but I do. Was working fine until the complete app redesign. I lost my entire history upon initial new update.
After a forced update a lot of my data got lost... very disappointed... previous version was better.... going to switch to other fitness app soon...
New update made it bad. Had used Samsung Health for many years. New update seems to prioritize connected devices. Made it more difficult to track exercises. Lately has lost data.
The most useful review in this group is the one where the loss reversed, because it is the only place in 2,082 complaints where a specific action is reported to have brought data back.
Update for the Galaxy Watch 4 cleared the data and foods saved. The workout and food entry screen was blank with no meals to log showing. Uninstall and reinstall the app brought back the food meal sections.
3. The Layout: 146 of the 773
Third subject, and the one that generates the most detailed complaints, because people describe exact button paths.
the update buried the take medicine button. in the old version it was open app, tap and done. the new version is oen app, scroll for 3 seconds, click medication, wait for that to load, then click take medication.
Bad user experience. I've been looking for the button to start my usual walk for the past 20 minutes now. Still can't find it. Complete waste of time.
new upgrade has made it so hard to find how to log exercise! i had been using the app to track running and cycling, including my route on a map with speeds etc.
Sucks now. The app changed. I used to be able to quickly choose a workout (walking, running, cycling) press start, and it would start a timer and track my distance and speed and at the end give me all the info, even showed on a map where I went that workout and log that.
Thirty five reviews say specifically that something on the new home screen cannot be moved, hidden or turned off, and this is where the complaint stops being taste and starts being a settings question.
Used to be acceptable especially with Galaxy watch but new interface and insights are horrible. What is worse is you cannot turn these off. Information that was accesible earlier is now buried under various sections and in some cases unavailable.
Was a great app until Health Insights. I use the health app daily. I would like to configure my dashboard to show cards I care about, up top.
One reviewer reports being offered the old layout and not getting it, which is worth flagging because if that prompt exists it is the fix most people in this cluster are asking for.
latest Aug update new look is barely usable Upon updating, I was asked if I wanted to keep the older format, I said yes and I got the new format and look.
Sixty nine reviews mention AI, almost all about the insight card at the top of the home screen, and 55 of those 69 are one-star.
I enjoy it, I don't like mandatory ai home screen, that should be an option it annoyes me and take up space on the screen, id be less annoyed if it were a little button that asks if you want the insites but its not its there in your
They ruined this app. There's an annoying information banner at the top you now can't get rid of. I'm sick of it. and no, I sure as HECK do not want my PERSONAL HEALTH INFORMATION used to train AI.
4. Steps, Sleep and the Delay Nobody Expected
Steps appear in 109 of the 773 and sleep in 102. Inside the steps group there is a small but very consistent sub-cluster, 13 reviews, describing the same specific change: the counter no longer moves as you walk.
The app was really good but the step count experience has degraded quite a lot. The steps don't get updated in real-time which I can still live with.
It was amazing until I updated it and now I cannot see steps properly, it does not update live, as you make the steps, it takes centuries and it updates in bulk. I need it back to how it was. How do I do that?
Unfortunately you changed a perfectly good app. Steps are not updated in real time. Actually more difficult to see all activities.
Thirteen out of 2,082 is a small number and we are not inflating it. It matters because it is precise, it is reproducible by anyone reading this, and the same complaint turns up in Arabic in the international corpus.
On sleep, the recurring report is a score that changed without the sleep changing.
After the last updated my sleep scores drastically changed dropping significantly with no change to sleep habits. I used to get 80s and 90s, now I get 40s, 50s, and 60s. Also naps use to add to it.
It now errors out if readings aren't normal because, "it's not a medical device". The AI has taken over sleep function. I've resorted to taking watch off and it still treats my awake time as sleep time.
What Reviewers Say Actually Helped
Two things before the list. Seventy four of the 2,082 say they already uninstalled, reinstalled or cleared the cache, so none of this is news to the people writing. And 95 name a competitor, usually Garmin, Fitbit, Google Fit, Strava, Huawei, Whoop, Polar or an Apple Watch, which is the honest ceiling on any of it.
Step 1: Check Which Build You Have Before You Change Anything
Open the Play Store listing for Samsung Health, scroll to App info, and read the version. The three 7.0 builds in this corpus score very differently, and the newest one collects noticeably fewer one-star reviews than the first. If you are on 7.00.0.107 and things are broken, an update is a more likely fix than a factory reset, and it costs nothing to check first.
Step 2: If the Watch Stopped Syncing, Reinstall Before You Reset the Watch
The single reported recovery in this corpus came from uninstalling and reinstalling the phone app, not from resetting the watch. Several reviewers describe resetting a watch and a phone and getting nowhere. Do the cheap, reversible thing first: reinstall the phone app, sign back into the same Samsung account, then open the app once with the watch nearby before you judge whether it worked.
Step 3: Turn On Health Connect So One App Does Not Hold Everything
Eighty six reviewers mention Health Connect, and the ones who set it up describe reading their own numbers in a second app when Samsung Health would not show them. It is Android's own health data layer, it lives in Settings under Security and privacy, and connecting it means a broken update stops being a total blackout. Grant Samsung Health both read and write permission, then confirm in the other app that yesterday's steps actually arrived, because several reviewers report permissions that look correct while nothing moves.
Step 4: Turn Off What the Home Screen Will Let You Turn Off
Thirty five reviewers say parts of the new home screen cannot be moved or hidden, and they are describing the insight card in particular. Before you accept that, press and hold the card and look for an edit or reorder control, then check the three-dot menu at the top of the home screen for a card or dashboard setting. Some of what people wanted removed can be turned off there; the insight card, on the evidence of these reviews, mostly cannot. Knowing which is which saves the twenty minutes one reviewer describes spending.
Step 5: Export Your History Before You Decide Anything
Eighty one reviewers say history disappeared, and one German reviewer reports being told an upcoming update would clear sleep coaching data. Whether or not you stay, get a copy: Settings, then the download or personal data option, which produces a file you keep. Do it while the app is working rather than after it stops, and do it before you uninstall anything in Step 2. This is the one action here that cannot be undone by a later update.
The Same Complaints In Nine Languages
We ran the same screen across 19 additional storefronts. Three of them, Mexico, Egypt and the Philippines, returned exactly the reviews we already had, so any international count has to deduplicate by review id first. The other 16 added 3,200 reviews and 840 substantial negatives. The clusters survive translation, including the delayed step counter and the watch error message.

The Arabic review names the delayed step counter that 13 US reviewers describe, and the Japanese one names the card at the top of the home screen that 35 US reviewers say they cannot remove. Neither reviewer could have read the other.
Two Claims We Are Not Making
That the redesign lowered the store rating. The rating is a lifetime average across 1,578,667 votes and we measured 4,000 reviews from 78 days. One reviewer in this corpus says the app fell from above 4 stars to 3.2. We did not verify that, and nothing here is built on it.
That any specific feature was removed. Reviewers name a steps widget, a pause-step-counting option, a workout start button, a GPX export and a dark theme. We can count how many people say a thing is gone. We cannot confirm from a review that it is gone rather than moved, which is exactly why Step 4 says to look before concluding.
What This Does Not Show
Negative reviews are self-selected. Of the 4,000 reviews we pulled, 757 were 4 or 5 stars. The 37.1% and 6.3% figures are shares of complaints, not shares of users.
Every outcome is as the reviewer describes it. We cannot confirm that a watch failed to sync, that history was deleted, or that a setting is absent.
This is a 78-day window on the Android listing. There is no iOS app to compare against, and nothing here says how the app behaved before June 2026.
