Does Swagbucks Actually Pay? 179 Reviews (2026)

By Unstar · Editorial Team

Swagbucks rates 4.17 on Google Play. We read 650 substantial negative reviews and hand-checked 240: 179 describe a payout that never completed, and 73 of those say the account was shut down with a balance in it.

Most complaints about a rewards app are about the rate. This set is not. These reviewers say they earned the points, watched the balance grow, and then could not turn it into money.

My account got randomly deactivated right as I saved up enough points to redeem a reward and now when I log in with the same email it says I'm new

Scam! I spent hours playing games and never received anything! I contacted them and they sent this response "Unfortunately, in this case, we did not receive the required event completion signals (also known as "tracking") from our third-party partners, which we must rely on in order to credit

We read the 3,000 newest Google Play reviews of Swagbucks from the United States store, dated 13 December 2025 to 31 August 2026. Of those, 1,273 are 1-3 stars and 650 are substantial (at least 120 characters, which is roughly where a review starts saying what actually happened). 179 of those 650, or 27.5%, describe a payout that did not complete. 153 of the 179 are one star.

On Google Play, Swagbucks holds 4.17 stars from 450,000 ratings with more than 10 million installs, and 45,289 of those ratings are one star. The iOS listing, Swagbucks: Surveys for Money, holds 4.40 from 147,730 ratings. The app is ad supported and declares no in-app purchases.

How We Counted

We kept only 1-3 star reviews with at least 120 characters of text, then filtered for words that appear when money is at stake: cash out, redeem, payout, gift card, PayPal, not credited, deactivated, suspended, owe, never received. That returned 240 candidates, 36.9% of the substantial negatives.

Then we read all 240 by hand. 61 were off topic and were dropped. Almost all of the discards were the same complaint: the app pays too little per hour, or surveys disqualify you at the end. Those are real, and we cover the rate further down, but they are not the same claim as "I earned it and could not collect it", so they are not counted in the 179.

The 179 that survived split into four failure modes. A review can describe more than one, so each is assigned to the mode it leads with.

The Largest Pattern: Shut Down With Money In The Account

Seventy-three reviews describe the same sequence. The account works, the balance builds, and then the account stops working.

Twenty-five of the 73 place the shutdown at or immediately next to a redemption or a milestone. That is the detail that makes this cluster different from an ordinary ban complaint: the reviewers are not describing a slow decline in service, they are describing a specific moment.

I had almost $100.00 in swag bucks and was getting ready to cash it in. I tried logging in only to have a notice that my account was deactivated.

Don't waste your time with this app - after I finally took enough surveys meet the $15 minimum cash out, I attempted to redeem my points for a Paypal gift card and my account was deactivated with no explanation and never got the

I used Swagbucks for a while, got a small reward and then worked up to a big one. Before I could redeem it they deactivated my account without warning. I attempted to appeal to them, asking what I had done, saying that I had no idea what I could have done. They asked me to verify what level I was on in certain games.

When you are complete task challenge then you are blocked from playing anymore. then they deactivate your account so now they don't have to pay out. don't waste your time.

Nineteen of the 73 name a dollar figure. The amounts run from $5 to $390, the median is $50, and together they come to $1,820. Two more give a points figure instead of a dollar figure. The remaining 52 say they had a balance without putting a number on it, so the $1,820 is a floor for this sample and nothing more. It is not an estimate of anything company-wide, and we make no claim that it is.

This app did what they claimed for a while. However, when I had $390 worth of swagbucks, they deactivated my account. Finally, they responded and said it was a problem with their offer and not that I violated anything.

Horrible money app. They deactivated my account that had $170 on it and wont reactivate it. Mistplay, free cash, and scrambly are way better apps.

Stay far away from this actual scam. Created account a short while ago, started some game offers and "earned" about $100 worth. Account then suddenly gets deactivated for offers that I had never even interacted with.

After installing and playing Dominoes Dreams, My account just got deactivated for no reason after reaching milestones in the game, now I lost $100 in my game, do not install. it's a scam.

I just got ripped off the third time by swaybucks. They finally credited me for the levels on Sunshine Island, then deactivated my account, so I couldn't collect the over $20.

Fourteen of the 179 describe themselves as long-time users, in years or in one case a decade. That matters for reading the cluster: this is not only new accounts hitting a fraud filter in week one.

I've been a swagbucks user for years, mostly just earning by playing games and the occasional shopping. I had thousands of swagbucks saved. My account was suddenly deactivated with no warning.

Randomly deactivated my account after around 10 years of usage with no notice, I had to email them to see what had happened.

What Reason Gets Given

Twenty-three of the 73 say no reason was given at all, or that the reason given was too vague to act on. Eleven cite automation, bots, or "suspicious activity" as the stated reason. Eleven say they were asked for a government or photo ID, in several cases through a third-party service, before anything would be reconsidered.

Would likely have been 5 stars, but it turns out they will give you a random ban in order to avoid doing payouts. I verified ID like they asked, and they said I broke some vague rule.

they randomly deactivated my account when I had $50+ in my account. they won't tell me why or reactivate my account unless I send my full government ID to a third party service

I earned $200 in points, and they deactivated my account without explanation, then sent a suspicious 3rd-party link for me to send my government ID. DO NOT provide this if asked.

We want to be careful here. Rewards platforms genuinely do get attacked by automated accounts, and identity checks are a normal anti-fraud tool. Nothing in a review can tell us whether a given account was correctly flagged. What the reviews can tell us is what the experience is on the receiving end, and on the receiving end the complaint is consistent: the decision arrives without a reviewable reason, and the appeal costs more identity data than the balance is worth.

They make you wait till you have a certain amount of money in wallet before you can cashout but before you get there, they suspend your account for suspicious activity. They don't let you remedy the situation.

The Loop Four Reviewers Describe

A smaller detail, but a sharp one. Support tickets are submitted from inside the account. If the account is deactivated, you cannot log in. If you cannot log in, you cannot file the ticket about being deactivated.

Four reviews describe that circle explicitly.

I tried to login to my account and received a message my account has been deactivated and to contact customer support. They have no way to contact customer support unless you are logged into your account.

My account was dormant for a while, got an email telling me it was going to deactivate if I didn't show activity within 30 days. No big deal, I log in (well within the 30 days) and start earning rewards for a new game that interested me. Now that I have pending earnings, my account is suddenly suspended/deactivated and I cannot get through to get help, the only way to submit a ticket is to log in.

Four out of 650 is a small number and we are not calling it a majority experience. We include it because it is falsifiable, specific, and it explains why so many of the other 175 reviews end with some version of "no response".

Credit That Never Arrives

The second cluster, 55 reviews, is about work that was completed and never paid. The most common version involves game offers: install a game through Swagbucks, reach a level, and find the level was not registered.

The mechanism shows up in one review that quotes the support reply verbatim, and it is worth reading closely, because it names the boundary: tracking is done by third parties, and when third-party tracking fails the platform says it cannot credit manually.

A few years ago I gave a 5 star, if I could I would have a 10 star. but now I would give 0 stars. they have changed. they decide and now lie saying they can't manually give you your credits for goals you completed.

SCAM!!! They don't pay what you earn! Every time I earned more than a couple bucks, the app "wouldn't track" and I would have to email back and forth sending screenshot proof of reached goals. Was able to get a couple $50 payouts by sending proof.

The payouts usually work in until it's a large amount. Emailing support for missing credits results in an automated email asking for the same information provided the first time followed by an excuse as to what you may have done wrong and basically saying that you aren't getting credited.

KEEPS RIPPING ME OFF. I meet game milestones and it doesn't register or payout...then it expires and ZERO customer service. twice now.

I downloaded a game and worked really hard to earn the bonuses. I was able to get one for $12.50, $60, and $90. But because of some little glitch or I downloaded the game wrong I never received the bonuses. Not one.

I used Swagbucks for game offers and received small payouts at first, but when I reached a higher level that was supposed to pay $2, the reward was never credited.

updated this app is getting pointless at least 5 times now I've selected receipt offers got the needed items and it says I don't and refuses to give me the points I've missed out on around 700 points

They have a monthly team tournament challenge. winning team members get three hundred swag.Bucks discount on a gift card. i was part of the winning team. The last 2 months and never received the 300 swag. Bucks.

still waiting for a response on missing SB there is no reason for them to be missing. all milestones were met. I'm just waiting for the payout.

Redeemed, But Nothing Showed Up

Twenty-six reviews describe the redemption going through and the reward not arriving, or arriving and not working. PayPal transfers that were reported as sent, gift cards that never landed, and codes that failed at the store.

Attempted to withdraw my earnings to PayPal, but after days of waiting, the money was refunded to my Swagbucks account without any explanation.

i radeemed a $5 paypal gift card, and after it showed like ready to use , and then the money didn't credited to linked paypal account so I waited for 10 days , but even after that money didn't credit, i tried to contact the support team , but all

tried to redeem a 100 gift card and guess what, it rested my money but didn't give me the gift card, I'm reporting for scamming

I got scammed. Never received the Amazon giftcard but the points are fine from my account.

This was an absolute waste of my time and effort, I redeem my points for a Google play card and once I tried redeeming it didn't work, even after i contacted support and asked for a new code, they

Worked fine until I tried to cash out to Paypal, I confirmed and verified everything but transaction never went through.

The Verification Wall At The Cash-Out Screen

The last cluster, 25 reviews, is people who still have their account and still cannot get paid. The blocker is an identity or contact check that arrives at the redemption step rather than at sign-up.

The most repeated version is a phone number problem. The account needs an SMS code to release the reward, and the number on file is wrong, or is rejected as prepaid or VOIP, or the code simply never arrives. Because the phone number cannot be changed without support, and support is slow, the balance sits.

Very disappointing experience. I have been trying to receive the verification code for over 3 months, but Swagbucks never sends it. My earned money is completely stuck even though I followed all rules and completed games honestly.

I changed my rati gs because , I am having a hard time with redeeming. I cashednout in December 2025 without any problems. I went to cashout last week and everything went wrong. I have always entered my phone number but when I did, it said we don't accept prepaid or VOIP phones.

got to the 20 dollar first payout an after getting the email saying my card was ready, the very last step in order to view the credentials it's asking for a security code.

I did a bunch of surveys and played games, got almost 1000 swag bucks and then they asked me for a government ID to cash out. Waste of time.

Don't use if you're not willing to give your ID. There is no alternative to this, and they don't tell you this until you want to cash out.

2026 - they want a picture of my passport before i redeem the points accumulated and won't accept my provisional licence as photo ID.

Be aware! Swagbucks (and their sister companies) are now requiring OFFICIAL government ID in order to redeem points.

The complaint in these 25 is almost never "you asked me for ID". It is "you asked me after I had already done the work". Several say plainly that they would not have started if the requirement had been visible at sign-up.

This Is Not A Bad Release

We checked whether the 179 concentrate in a version or a month, the way a software regression does. They do not.

The 179 carry 19 distinct version tags, with 45 more untagged, spread across a nine-month window. The monthly share moves between 15.2% and 37.5% with no direction: 23.3% in December, 24.5% in January, 27.9% in February, 35.1% in March, 17.7% in April, 30.8% in May, 31.0% in June, 15.2% in July, 37.5% in August.

A regression shows up in one build and disappears in the next. This is spread evenly across every build we can measure, which is what a policy looks like rather than a bug.

The Counter-Example

One review in the set went the other way, and it deserves the same space as the rest.

I'm updating my review due to the company crediting my account for 4000 Swagbucks that were missing.

That reviewer raised a missing-credit ticket, was credited 4,000 Swagbucks, and updated the review to say so, while noting a second missing amount still outstanding. One account against 178 proves nothing on its own. It does show that manual credit happens, which makes the "we cannot credit manually" support line in the earlier quote look like a policy boundary rather than a technical impossibility.

What About The Pay Rate?

The 61 reviews we set aside are worth a paragraph, because they answer a different question people ask about Swagbucks: not "will it pay" but "is it worth the hours".

The recurring numbers in those reviews are a first cash-out threshold of 1,500 SB, which reviewers equate to $15, and survey earnings they describe in cents rather than dollars. Several say the threshold they saw at sign-up was lower than the threshold they hit at redemption. One reviewer puts their own average at less than $0.65 an hour. We did not verify any of these figures against the platform's published terms, and they are self-reported, so treat them as reports rather than rates.

Outside The United States

We then swept 40 more Google Play store listings and kept only reviews we had not already seen, deduplicated by review ID. That returned 2,488 additional reviews, of which 308 are substantial negatives.

Forty-two of those 308, or 13.6%, mention an account being deactivated, blocked or suspended. All 42 come from non-English store listings, across eleven of them. The pattern reproduces almost word for word, including the timing.

Two warnings about that 13.6%. It is a keyword match, not a hand-read count, so it is a ceiling rather than a verified figure. And the international window is far longer than the American one: it reaches back to 2019, so it is a thinner, older record and it cannot answer "how bad is this month". What it can answer is whether the pattern is local to one market, and the answer is no.

One more thing the international sweep shows that the American set does not. Several reviewers outside the United States describe a second obstacle: the offers that pay well are not available where they live, and the redemption catalogue they were shown at sign-up is not the one they get at checkout. Note that a store listing is not a country. The reviewer below wrote in the Spanish-language listing and says they are in Mexico but was offered only European rewards.

Spanish

No tuve problemas para el registro ni tomar encuestas. Hice bastantes puntos y para canjearlos, solo me salían recompensas de Europa. Soy de México.

What This Means If You Use Swagbucks

We are not in a position to tell you whether any individual account was correctly closed, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What the 179 reviews support is narrower and more useful:

The risk in this app is not that the hourly rate is low. That is visible on day one. The risk is that value accumulates in a balance you do not control, and the reported failures cluster at the exact moment you try to move that value out. Every mitigation the reviewers themselves land on follows from that: redeem early and often rather than saving up, get the phone number and email on the account correct before you have a balance worth protecting, screenshot completed milestones at the time you complete them, and treat a large pending balance as the risky state rather than the successful one.
