Can't Delete Your MoneyLion Account? 50 Reviews (2026)
MoneyLion holds 4.49 stars from 218,368 Google Play ratings. We read 965 substantial negative reviews from fourteen months and hand-verified 50 about deleting or closing an account. All 50 are one-star, the highest rate we have measured on any theme, and 29 say the only way out is a phone call.
There is a button in the MoneyLion app that says delete account. In the 4,000 most recent US Google Play reviews, 50 people describe what happened when they pressed it, and every single one of those 50 reviews is one star.
Garbage and they (or one of their thousands of other shady affiliates) sell your data online, and they put a button to delete your account in the app but it does nothing. Complete scam.
Cannot Delete Account? It seems very shady the app will not delete the data from the account when clicking through and prompts you to call instead.
That is the highest one-star rate we have measured on any theme, on any app. The second half of this piece is about the other end of the same app, the part where the money comes out, because the two halves are built the same way.
What We Read
We pulled the 4,000 most recent US Google Play reviews for MoneyLion on 7 September 2026, along with the live store metadata. The listing shows 4.49 stars from 218,368 ratings on more than 5 million installs, and the build was 7.158.0. On the App Store the same app holds 4.77 from 325,359 ratings.
Those 4,000 reviews cover 18 July 2025 to 5 September 2026, 415 days. Of them, 1,721 were 1-3 stars, and 965 were long enough to describe something at 120 characters or more. Every count below comes from those 965.
Two things about that headline rating. A 4.49 average with a cluster this angry underneath it is normal, not contradictory: most people who open a cash advance app and get their cash advance leave five stars and never come back. The reviews below are what the minority who had a problem wrote down, and nothing here says how common that is.
Quick Answer: Can You Delete a MoneyLion Account In the App?
According to these reviewers, not reliably. A keyword screen for account deletion or closure returned 99 of the 965 substantial complaints. We read all 99 and dropped 49: most of those were MoneyLion closing someone's account rather than the reverse, or reviews that mentioned the word account while complaining about something else. That leaves 50 confirmed reports, 5.2% of every real complaint in the window, and all 50 are one-star. Of the 50, 30 say the in-app delete path fails outright, 29 say the exit runs through a phone call, 5 say they had to install the app in the first place purely to delete the account, and 3 say charges continued after they closed it. Reported time on hold runs from 20 minutes to 3 hours.
Why the One-Star Rate Is the Finding
Every theme we measure has a one-star rate, and it is usually the most useful single number in a cluster, because it separates disappointment from anger. A payments bug runs around 60%. The angriest cancellation cluster we had measured before this one, on SiriusXM, ran 91.8%.
This one is 100%. Fifty out of fifty.
A rate that high means the reviews are not a spread of opinion about a feature. Nobody writes a three-star review saying the account deletion was a bit awkward. The people who end up writing about this at all are the people who could not get out, and they arrive already finished with the product.
The share is also steady, which rules out the usual explanation that a recent build broke something.
| Month | Substantial complaints | About getting out | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| September 2025 | 73 | 4 | 5.5% |
| October 2025 | 69 | 6 | 8.7% |
| November 2025 | 62 | 1 | 1.6% |
| December 2025 | 67 | 5 | 7.5% |
| January 2026 | 66 | 4 | 6.1% |
| February 2026 | 79 | 4 | 5.1% |
| March 2026 | 118 | 4 | 3.4% |
| April 2026 | 54 | 3 | 5.6% |
| May 2026 | 47 | 1 | 2.1% |
| June 2026 | 80 | 5 | 6.3% |
| July 2026 | 64 | 3 | 4.7% |
| August 2026 | 66 | 4 | 6.1% |
Fourteen months, no direction. A bug produces a step in a table like that. A policy produces a line. This is a line, and the practical consequence for anyone reading this is that waiting for the next update is not a plan.
1. The In-App Delete Path Fails (30 of the 50)
The most common single report is not that the option is missing. It is that the option is there and does not work.
the app isn't what I want or need. the reason for the rating is because it will not let me delete my account. Every time I go and tap delete account it says not able to.
I went in to delete my account and they won't allow me to delete it. I keep getting a message that says contact customer care.
I no longer wanted the account and they will not allow me to delete it,I contacted customer service and they just leave the chat.
BEWARE: IF YOU SIGN UP. THEY WON'T LET YOU DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT!!!!
you will not delete my account...I have tryed so many time to do so and you will not do it either ...I am contacting a lawyer today to get this
One reviewer states the sequence in the order it happens, which is the version worth keeping.
I was forced to download an app in order to delete my account, and then the process to delete my account in app did not work. very poor user experience.
And one draws the inference the whole cluster is circling.
Should have been called MoneySharks. They don't answer phone calls and won't let you delete your account over the app even though there is an option.
2. The Exit Runs Through a Phone Call (29 of the 50)
Twenty nine of the 50 say the same thing in different words: the account can be opened on a phone in five minutes and can only be closed by talking to a person.
you cannot close the account online you have to call them on the phone number
I should be able to delete my account without the inconvenience of having to call a number. Just how I was able to conveniently start it on the app I should be able to delete it.
I was unable to delete my account on the app and had to call in several times to get my account and information deleted.
Reviewers who describe how long it took give numbers that belong in a table more than a sentence. These are the durations people chose to write down, so read it as a list of the worst reported cases rather than an average.
| What the reviewer was trying to do | Reported time | Outcome as reported |
|---|---|---|
| Delete an unused account | 20 minutes on the phone | Deleted |
| Delete the account | 26 minutes on hold | Answered eventually |
| Cancel the account and the membership | 3 hours | Cancelled |
| Delete the account | Several calls | Deleted |
| Delete the account | A week of trying | Not deleted |
bs doesn't give cash advance also won't let me delete my account been on hold for 26mins still no answer
It only took me 3 hours to cancel my account - WOuld not let me delete banking info, would not let me cancel membership. 3 hours.
Two reviewers describe the call itself as the reason they stopped. One was asked on that call for the identity documents they were trying to remove.
They won't let you delete your account. I called to delete my account, then they suspended my account and said I had to verify my identity by uploading my driver's license.
they dont give you much of a loan, 25$, so when I tried to delete my account they made me call some one in India who asked for my full ssc number and date of birth, I was like HECK NO THANK YOU scammer.
That second review is the sharpest thing in this corpus, and it needs stating carefully. We cannot verify what any agent asked anyone. What we can say is that the review describes being asked to hand over a full social security number and date of birth in order to close an account, and that this reviewer refused. If you make the call, you are entitled to ask why any new information is needed to delete data you already gave.
3. Installing the App Purely To Leave (5 of the 50)
A small group, and the most self-explanatory one. Five reviewers say they installed the Android app for no reason other than to delete an account they had opened elsewhere, and then could not do it there either.
had to install the app just to delete my account. poor design. edit: I still couldn't delete my account from the app. I had to call and spend 20 minutes on the phone to delete an account I never used.
the fact that I have to download the app in order to delete my account is insane.... then the fact that it still won't delete my account without a phone call.....
4. The Charges Did Not Stop (3 of the 50)
The smallest bucket, and we are keeping it small deliberately. Only three of the 50 describe money moving after they closed or tried to close the account. This is a common allegation in app reviews generally, and in this corpus it is rare.
they are stealing $5 each week and I'm not subscribe.. I'm trying to delete the account and it won't let me. it is a trap.
I closed this account and u keep taking money and doin stuff clearly I dont wantbthis anymore
The Other Half: What Instacash Actually Costs
Now the front door. Instacash, the app's cash advance, is mentioned in 162 of the 965 substantial complaints, 16.8%, and 121 of those, 74.7%, are one-star. Only three of those 965 reviews mention interest at all, and that absence is the finding rather than an oversight. The complaints about Instacash are not about a rate. They are about the three things sitting beside it: a delivery fee charged per transfer, a tip that is pre-selected, and a ceiling that splits one advance into several transfers.
Sixty of the 965 mention a tip. That is only 6.2%, so this is not the biggest cluster in the app. It is the most mechanically specific one, which is why it is worth reading closely: 24 of those 60 do not complain about being asked for a tip. They complain that the tip came back after they declined it.
Thank you for providing me cash when I need it. However, you get 1 star. Your request process includes a page stating you did not receive a tip last time, as if you are owed some sort of tip on top of your BS fees. You are NOT providing a free service. You charge fees. Then, when you select 0% tip on that page, the final confirmation page has optional 10% tip pre selected.
That review describes a two-screen sequence: decline on the first screen, find it pre-selected on the second. Six others in the group of 24 describe the same two screens, and one review outside the group describes it as well.
Great option for instacash in a pinch. However, I don't like when I click "no thanks I'll tip next time" and on the next screen it still adds a tip.
I say no tip and the. the next screen automatically adds $5 tip.
My favorite part of the cash advance is clicking no thanks I'll tip next time to the next screen to an auto $5 tip waiting for you to click the button to get the money. Bad practices that won't get you far besides anywhere here.
BEWARE THEY WILL TRY TO CHARGE YOU FOR A TIP EVEN WHEN YOU PRESS NO. WHEN YOU GO TO CONFIRM THE TIP PERCENT WILL BE ADDED BACK. SCAMMY
too many fees and they force to take out more than 1 loan if you need more than $100 so they can hit you with yet another fee. It's a predatory loan app that you shouldn't use unless you absolutely have to.
Others describe the reset happening when they change the amount, which means the decline does not survive an edit.
they refresh the page to the default 10 percent tip amount when you change loan amount, warning to users who are using this as a last resort.
the app is great, the perks are cool. but, the constant asking of a tip for cash advance is a turn off. if i press 0%, then change amount needed for advance, the tip resets to 10% and it does that twice..
Tipping is just predatory now. I set it to zero twice and it would still tell me to choose, then it'll automatically process with the tip. Cool. Thanks I guess.
one issue lost two stars it will ask you if you would like to tip two times you will say no and on the third time you have to manually change your tip to zero in your settings , because they will change it back to 2% automatically that is
Two reviewers put a number on it, and the first of them does the division.
BEWARE. This is a predatory lender. The site is setup so that loans are processed without option to opt out once the application is started in the app. The default for tipping is set at $10. So, this equates to 10% for a standard $100 advance.
generally good money management app overall. instacash advance option for immediate use is overpriced as a percentage of advanced cash. Beware of "tip" automatically attached to instacash withdrawals from 6% to 12%.
What we are not saying: that a tip is a fee. A tip you actually chose is a tip. The claim in these 24 reviews is narrower and more checkable than that, and it is the only claim we are making here: reviewers report declining, and then finding a tip selected again at confirmation. If that happens to you, the last screen before the money moves is the one to read.
The $100 Ceiling, and Why It Multiplies the Fee
The second cost mechanism in this corpus is structural rather than a prompt. Fifteen reviewers describe being approved for an amount but only being able to draw it $100 at a time, with a separate delivery fee on each draw.
They literally get two stars for being a working app that does give a cash advance. beware you can only take out $100 Max in increments of whatever the amount that you have available and you will have separate fees per withdrawal.
No matter how much you can borrow, you can only pull increments of $100. So if you need money immediately, you need to pay an exorbitant amount for each transfer.
always pushes for a tip. but youre charged a fee already. also only allows you to borrow up to 100 at a time, so if you need more than that, you have to pay the fee each time. its preditory.
Two reviewers work the arithmetic out loud, and this is the clearest illustration of why a per-transfer fee behaves differently from an interest rate.
Very meh, very shady feeling. you get approved for let's say $230 advance they don't let you take it all at once you have to pull $100 twice and $30 once resulting in higher payback fees,
If my advance is more than $100..say $500 ..Why do I have to keep only getting 100 at a time with $8+ fees each time til I get the $500, Id end up paying $40-$50+ in fees,
It's helped me out in a pinch when I was desperate but can't recommend. They only allow withdrawals of 100 at a time and charge an 8.99 for EACH withdrawal.
Put those two mechanisms next to each other and you get the actual complaint. A fee charged per transfer, on an advance that arrives in fixed increments, with a percentage tip pre-selected on each one. One of the three reviewers who mention interest states the conclusion in a way we would not state ourselves, and it belongs here as an opinion clearly attributed to them.
Highly predatory. 0% interest is a complete lie. Even if you don't tip. The actual cost of the loan is not different then high interest loan. It's exactly the same. They just frame it differently as a fee.
It charges you automatically for the $8 turbo fee without an option, then tries to trick you into tipping 10%. Not cool, but if you need it, you need it.
What Reviewers Actually Name In Dollars
This is where we have to be honest about how thin the numbers are. People rarely write the amount down, so this is not a fee schedule. It is a tally of what appeared in the text of 965 reviews.
| Amount named | Reviews out of 965 |
|---|---|
| $10 | 15 |
| 10% | 9 |
| $19.99 | 8 |
| $9 | 4 |
| $8.99 | 3 |
| $11 | 3 |
| $8 or more | 2 |
| $18.99 | 1 |
| $17.99 | 1 |
Nine mentions of a 10% tip and three of an $8.99 fee cannot establish what MoneyLion charges, and we are not presenting them as if they can. Check your own screen and your own statement. What the table does show is which numbers people found worth complaining about, and the two that recur are a percentage on the tip and a flat charge somewhere between $8 and $11 per transfer.
I understand needing to make money but $18.99 for 100$ is steep and we are forced to tip. Other apps are doing it better.
I hate all the fees! I pay monthly for a subscription then have to pay 8.99 fee per every $100 and they still harass me for a tip when requesting and when returning every time.
Was good until they force you into a membership. I use this all the time when need some extra cash but now you either join their membership or pay $9 everytime you want $100.
The Advance That Shrank
One more pattern, smaller but consistent enough to name. Reviewers report an available amount going down rather than up, in several cases immediately after a repayment.
I just repaid $175 advance but now it's only letting me get a $45 advance. So I just lost $130. Instacash is a joke. I do not recommend using it.
I was at 60 paid early and now I've been on 25$ for months and it's getting ridiculous
Only got approved for $10, not even worth it. I have great credit and payment history so it was disappointing.
SERIOUSLY???? They want you to leave a tip, even after trying it and repayment of 17.99 they still only let you borrow 10.00. Waste of time and complete SCAM
The most detailed one describes doing exactly what the product asked and getting a worse result.
disappointed. I chose to change my direct deposit to MoneyLion after 3 years, almost 4 and when I did the base "instacash" dropped from $300 to $50 because of "insufficient or irregular deposits" even though they advertise that you can have a base of up to $700 if you switch your direct
Three Spanish-language reviewers describe the same two ends of the app: money that never arrived, and an account that would not close.
Where the Support Line Goes
One hundred and eighty four of the 965, 19.1%, describe customer service, and 164 of those are one-star. That is the largest cluster in the entire corpus, larger than Instacash and far larger than account deletion, and it sits underneath both of them: every section above ends with somebody contacting support.
They scam you with tips! When you try to change the tip from 10% it automatically sends the money without you clicking confirm and you CANNOT get past the AI loop on the chat or phone.
Money Lion does not fix problems that occur in their system. I was told by 3 different reps that the problem would be resolved after 3-5 business days.
I repaid the instacash on the due date & the money was taken from my account, the app never updated showing it's been paid.
Three Claims We Are Deliberately Not Making
Reading 965 reviews produces allegations that are sharper than the evidence behind them. Three are worth naming, because leaving them out silently would be its own kind of dishonesty.
That MoneyLion charges a specific interest rate. One reviewer puts a figure on it. One review is not a rate, we could not verify it, and it is not in this piece.
That the app sells personal data. Several reviewers assert it, one in strong terms. None of them offer anything we can check, the claim is legally sharp, and it is not part of the argument, so we have left it out.
That any specific corporate owner is responsible. One review names a chain of companies and investors. We did not verify it and did not use it.
What survives is narrower and better supported: a delete path that reviewers say does not complete, an exit that runs through a phone call, and a tip that 24 people say reappeared after they said no.
What This Does Not Show
Negative reviews are self-selected. Of the 4,000 reviews we pulled, 2,279 were 4 or 5 stars. The 5.2% and 16.8% figures are shares of complaints, not shares of customers.
Every outcome is as the reviewer describes it. We cannot confirm from a review that an account was never deleted, that a tip was charged, or that a fee was what someone says it was.
This is the Android listing. The App Store rating for the same app is 4.77 from 325,359 ratings, and none of these counts were measured there.
