Ford App Won't Log In: 73 Reports, 62 in July (2026)
Ford holds 4.69 stars from 438,921 Google Play ratings. We read 650 substantial negative reviews from six months: 73 describe a sign-in loop, 62 of those landed in July 2026 on app versions 6.16 and 6.17, and a separate 93 describe commands to the car failing all year.
If the Ford app sends you back to the sign-in screen every time you enter your password, you are not doing it wrong and your account is not broken. In the six months of Google Play reviews we read, 73 people describe the same loop, and 62 of them wrote in a single month.
Ford holds 4.69 stars from 438,921 Google Play ratings on 10 million plus installs, and 4.76 from 1,437,067 ratings on iOS. Those are strong averages, and they include every morning the truck started on the first tap. This article is only about the negative reviews, and specifically about what happens when the app that unlocks your car will not let you in.
Quick Answer: Why Won't the Ford App Let Me Sign In?
Reviewers describe two different failures that look identical from the driveway. The first is a sign-in loop: you enter your credentials, the app hands you to a browser, and you land back on the sign-in button. The second is involuntary sign-out: you stay logged in for a few hours or a day, then the app quietly forgets you. Both spiked in July 2026 and both cluster on app versions 6.16 and 6.17.
Underneath them is an older, separate problem that has nothing to do with logging in: 93 reviews in the same window describe commands that simply fail. Remote start times out, the doors do not respond, and the app says the vehicle is in battery saver mode.
We cannot see Ford's servers, so treat any mechanism as inference. What is measurable is how many people report each failure, when they reported it, and which version they were on.
What We Read
We pulled the 3,000 most recent Google Play reviews from the US storefront and kept the 650 rated 1 to 3 stars with enough text to categorise. They run from 20 February to 22 August 2026, so this is a six-month window, not a snapshot.
We then repeated the pull across 18 other storefronts in 15 languages. After removing duplicates the combined corpus is 7,286 unique reviews, 3,406 of them negative, and 1,483 long enough to read as reports.
Two honesty notes. The US storefront returns the global English pool, so some reviews quoted below are from drivers outside the US. And because stores return reviews newest first, raw monthly counts measure the collection window, not anger.
73 Reviews Cannot Get Past the Sign-In Screen
We searched the 650 for any mention of logging in, signing in, passwords or credentials, then read every hit. 73 describe being unable to get into the app: a loop back to sign-in, a rejected password, or a code that never arrives. Reviews that merely mentioned logging out as a troubleshooting step were dropped.
The description is remarkably consistent.
Well, it was nicer when it worked. The latest update completely broke the app. Now you can't login. You just get a constant login loop where you enter your credentials and it takes you right back to the login screen.
Completely Useless since last update. When you try to sign in it just takes you back the the login screen over and over again. looks like a lot of people are having this issue. Get it together Ford.
Ever since the update, it will not let me sign it. It's like it is stuck in a loop, just keeps asking me to sign in. Have uninstalled and reinstalled and same problem.
Here is when those 73 reviews were written.
| Month | Reviews describing a sign-in failure |
|---|---|
| March 2026 | 3 |
| April 2026 | 0 |
| May 2026 | 1 |
| June 2026 | 4 |
| July 2026 | 62 |
| August 2026 (to the 22nd) | 3 |
Sixty-two of 73 landed in July. For context, July produced 219 substantial negative reviews in total, so more than a quarter of everything people complained about that month was the sign-in screen.
The Version Fingerprint
Google Play records the app version the reviewer had installed. Across the 73:
| App version | Reviews |
|---|---|
| 6.17.0 | 34 |
| 6.16.1 | 18 |
| 6.16.0 | 8 |
| 6.18.0 | 4 |
| Older or not recorded | 9 |
Sixty of 73 sit on 6.16.0, 6.16.1 or 6.17.0. Reviewers name the cause themselves, and they name an update.
App does not work. I just bought the truck less than a month ago and the app worked great for 1 week. Now I can't get into it as it keeps looping the login screen over and over.
The update won't let me sign in making it totally worthless. Had no problem with the previous version.
Day by day, the July curve looks like a deployment rather than a slow decay: first reports on the 1st, a step up around the 8th, and a plateau through the 22nd before it thins out.
This is worth stating plainly because it is the difference between a bug and a background condition. The sign-in cluster has a start date and a version. The command failures further down this page do not.
It Was Not Only English
We ran the same reading across the other storefronts. Thirteen July 2026 reviews outside the US pool describe the same thing: ten in German, two in Dutch, one in Italian. Eleven of the thirteen were on version 6.16.0.
Aiuto.
A separate and much smaller failure shows up in four languages across three months: the app refuses the sign-in because it says the selected country does not match the account country, when the reviewer says it does. We found five of those, in German, Italian, Spanish and Turkish.
28 More Say the App Signs Them Out On Its Own
The second failure is quieter. These reviewers can get back in. They just have to do it constantly, which defeats the point of an app whose main job is to open a door quickly.
Twenty-eight reviews describe involuntary sign-outs, 20 of them in July and 20 of them on version 6.16.0.
since app updated 7 days ago, I've had to log in AT LEAST TWO OR THREE TIMES A DAY! Makes app useless. I used to be able to start car so the a/c would cool the car while charging as I walked the dog...no more...I have to login..very challenging when 98* and walking a dog.
with the new update you have to sign in every time you get into the app. it doesn't remember your sign on information anymore. absolute garbage but you can't do anything about it because it's the only app you can use
Would be 5 stars except for 1 very big thing. App randomly signs you out, doesn't tell you it's done this, and then when you go to open the app to use it, and surprise, you have to sign in, it DOESN'T LET YOU AUTO FILL your username/password! Absolutely infuriating.
What happened? Worked great for over a year and now it requires re-logging in every couple hours. And even then can no longer precondition climate: it just gives an error after spinning for 30 seconds.
Add the two clusters together and 101 of 650 substantial negative reviews, or 15.5 percent, are about authentication rather than about a car.
What It Actually Costs When You Cannot Log In
A messaging app that logs you out is annoying. This one is attached to a vehicle, and the reviews are full of consequences that have a location and a temperature.
app stopped working after the last update my keys was locked in my truck at work and couldn't get past the sign in part it just sent me back to sign in and that all it will do I had to have a spare ran out to from 2 hrs away
I've used the Ford app for years to remote start my vehicle. Definitely needed in this desert heat, but since the last update, I can't even get pass the login screen.
Ever since I moved to a new phone, I can't login to the app anymore, so I no longer have access to remote start which is a huge detriment considering the ongoing heat wave.
TERRIBLE APP!!! I just purchased a new F-450 Platinum Plus. in order to activate some of the features I need to log into the app. it goes into a login app loop. Never logs in. Been to 2 different dealerships to figure it out.
The pattern in these is not that the app is slow. It is that people had already replaced their key fob habits with the app, and the app chose a heat wave to ask for a password it would not accept.
The Watch App Is a Different, Older Problem
If your complaint is that the watch app says to open and sign in on the phone while the phone is already signed in, that is not the July bug. We found 20 reviews describing it, and they are spread evenly from March through August 2026 on many different versions. Samsung Galaxy and Pixel watches both appear.
Months later and still no fix for Samsung Galaxy watch ultra 2024. still saying "please open and log in on phone" when I am...
App does not work at all on android wear. Just shows a message telling you to login on your phone. When I reviewed it earlier Ford said to call their help line, they escalated the issue, and then got back to me an hour later saying it's a "known issue" with no ETR. It's been broken for months.
Same as everyone else, do not rely on this to work on a pixel watch. I've been locked out of my vehicle twice while on a run where I didn't want to carry my phone.
Treating that one as a July regression will send you chasing a fix that does not exist. It predates the sign-in cluster by months.
The Baseline: 93 Reviews Where Commands Fail Anyway
Now the part that puts the July spike in perspective. We read the same 650 reviews for a different question: did a command sent to the vehicle fail, time out, or get refused? Ninety-three reviews say yes, and none of them are in the login clusters.
| Month | Command failures |
|---|---|
| March 2026 | 14 |
| April 2026 | 11 |
| May 2026 | 11 |
| June 2026 | 22 |
| July 2026 | 20 |
| August 2026 (to the 22nd) | 15 |
That line is flat. It does not spike in July, and unlike the login cluster it does not concentrate on any version: the 93 are spread across 18 different app versions with no version holding more than 12. This is the background condition, and it was there before the update and after it.
Terrible. Remote start, you know, the main feature of the app, only works about 3 days a week if you're lucky.
it just doesn't work. remote start doesn't work 90% of the time and same with the keyless entry.
I like that you can use it as a key, I like that you can remote start the climate control. I don't like how flaky it is. one time in 4 it won't unlock the door so I end up using the PIN pad, 1 time in 10 it won't start the vehicle so I either have to use the backup password, or open the app, trigger a function (such as unlock) and then try again.
A recurring specific inside that group is battery saver mode: the vehicle disables remote commands to protect its battery, and reviewers say it triggers on cars they have just driven.
Now every time I try to go on the app to unlock my truck or to look at anything it always says "battery saver mode" and will not allow me to unlock my truck or do anything with my truck 🤦🏼♀️ it says "start your truck manually to access remote commands" right after I had literally just driven it 🤦🏼♀️
App is almost useless because it reports battery saver mode constantly. Want to remote start the truck? Nope. Unlock it? Nope.
And the failure mode with the highest stakes is the one where the app is the only key you brought.
You should remove the remote lock and unlock feature until it's fail proof. Currently locked out of our vehicle because the app won't work after the app locked our vehicle with key inside.
App is ok, but I have had issues with it randomly not letting me lock or unlock my 2025 F150. have had to get roadside Assistance 3 times now to get my truck unlocked so I can get my keys, that I was storing cause went on hike and didn't have pockets.
What Reviewers Tried, and What Actually Worked
Across the 73 sign-in reviews, people report their own troubleshooting. The counts below are what reviewers say they attempted, not a success rate.
| Attempt | Reviews that mention it |
|---|---|
| Uninstall and reinstall | 22 |
| Clear cache or app data | 12 |
| Change or check the default browser | 9 |
| Restart the phone or force stop | 7 |
| Reset the password | 5 |
| Contact Ford support or a dealer | 5 |
Six reviewers report the loop ending, and they credit two different things: an app update, and clearing the cache.
New Update. Unable to login no matter what I do. App sends to username/password login web page. Enter credentials and sends me back to the signin of the app. Just sends me in circles. Thank you for the app update to v5.22.0 today.
it was bad for a few weeks... always logging me off until I couldn't even login at all. For almost 2 weeks I had no access to the app because it wouldn't let me login.
The browser detail is the most actionable thing in the whole set, because Ford hands sign-in to your default browser. Several reviewers say a non-Chrome or privacy-hardened browser is where the loop happens.
You have to change Google Chrome to your default browser to log in. then you can switch it back to your browser or choice.
App itself is good, but you can't signin using browsers like firefox or samsung internet, you must use somthing like chrome.
Can't use a safe browser to log in. if using a safe browser with cookies and other trackers turned off, get into an endless log in loop.
It is not universal, and we are quoting the exception on purpose: at least one reviewer changed the default browser and got nowhere.
login no longer works. This afternoon, the app decided that I had to login again. when I do, it redirected me back to the login page. The app is now completely useless. Force stop, clear cache, clear data, change default browser, no change, still complete broken.
Step 1: Check Which Version You Are Running
Open Google Play, find the Ford app, and look at the installed version. The sign-in cluster in our data sits on 6.16.0, 6.16.1 and 6.17.0, and the update that shipped after it is what several reviewers credit with fixing them. If an update is available, take it before trying anything destructive.
Step 2: Set a Mainstream Browser as Your Default
Sign-in leaves the app and comes back through your phone's default browser. Nine reviewers in our set connect the loop to that handoff, and reviewers using Firefox, Samsung Internet or a tracker-blocking browser report the worst of it. Switch the default to Chrome, sign in once, then switch back if you prefer.
Step 3: Force Stop, Then Clear Cache
Force stop the app, then clear its cache before clearing data, because clearing data will also remove Phone As A Key setup on some vehicles. One reviewer in the German store reports the cache clear alone restored the saved login.
Step 4: Uninstall and Reinstall, With Your Key In Hand
This is the most common attempt in the reviews (22 of 73) and several people say it was the only thing that restored access. Do it while you have your physical key, not while standing next to a locked car. More than one reviewer discovered during a reinstall that they could not remember their Phone As A Key passcode.
Step 5: Escalate, and Plan for the App Being Down
If the loop survives all of the above, open a case with Ford and note that reviewers name specific versions, because that is more useful than "the app is broken". In the meantime, treat the app as a convenience and not as a key. The reviews above are full of people who had already stopped carrying a fob.
What We Are Not Saying
We are not saying the July update caused every problem in this data. The opposite is closer: the command failures were stable for six months and the sign-in loop was not, which is exactly why the two should not be treated as one complaint.
We are also not claiming a fix rate. We can count how many people say they tried something. We cannot count the drivers whose app started working again and never came back to update a review, and that group is invisible in every review corpus.
And we are not saying the app is unusable. It has 4.69 stars from more than 438,000 ratings. The reason to write this down is narrower: when the failure is authentication, the car is fine, the account is usually fine, and the version number is the most useful thing you can report.
