Telegram Email Not Allowed at Login? 58 Reviews (2026)

You reinstall Telegram, enter your number, and it asks for an email address. The login code arrives in your inbox, you type it in, and Telegram answers that the email is not allowed. Or that it cannot be used. Or that it is invalid. No reason is given, and trying another address often ends the same way.

That is the story of 58 Google Play reviews we found in eight languages. We read all of them to find out who gets the error, what the message says, what people tried and what Telegram tells them.

Quick Answer: Why Does Telegram Say My Email Is Not Allowed?

58 Google Play reviews from June to 29 October 2026 say Telegram rejected their email address at login with "EMAIL_NOT_ALLOWED", "Sorry, this email cannot be used" or "invalid email", 52 of them with one star. 32 arrived in October. In 16 the login code had already arrived in their inbox, and 7 say signing in with Google was rejected too. Telegram's replies do not explain which addresses it accepts. Its usual reply is about SMS, not email, but in one reply Telegram asked the reviewer to send the details to [email protected] with "#playstore" in the subject.

How We Counted

We pulled the 12,000 most recent US English-language Google Play reviews of Telegram, going back to 10 September 2026, plus the 3,000 most recent from each of the German, Spanish, Brazilian, Indonesian, Italian, French and Russian stores and all 760 from the Finnish store, 33,760 different reviews in all. The UK, Indian and Philippine stores returned exactly the same reviews as the US one. Telegram holds 3.81 stars from 17,351,696 ratings on Google Play and 4.00 from 284,634 on the App Store. Every review below is from the Android app.

We searched them for email, Gmail and the local words for email next to "not allowed", "cannot be used", "invalid", "rejected" and "not accepted" in nine languages, and read every match. We kept only the reviews where Telegram refused the address itself. Reviews about codes that never arrived, codes sent to a stranger's email after a hack, or support that never answered an email are about something else, and we left them out. One French reviewer posted almost the same review twice; we counted it once.

35 of the 58 came from the US store, 5 each from Germany and Spain, 4 from France, 3 each from Brazil and Indonesia, 2 from Russia and 1 from Finland. The US store also carries reviews in Indonesian, Hindi and Finnish, so the stores are not a reliable guide to where people live.

What the Error Says

The wording changes, but the result is the same. 14 reviewers quote the code EMAIL_NOT_ALLOWED, others "this email can't be used", "email not allowed" or "invalid email address". The oldest review in our sample is French, from 22 June, and the error shows up in the German, Brazilian and Finnish stores in July and August. The US sample only starts on 10 September, so we cannot say when it began there: from then on we found 17 in the rest of September and 32 in October.

For one, I am being charged money when I redownload the app, and I have never been charged money before. Why am I unable to use the app without paying money all of a sudden? I downloaded the app yesterday and was not charged any money but today I am being charged. Second, when I try and use the verification code to log into the app in the first place, I am told my email can't be used. I have tried the different emails and all of them say the email cannot be used.

Who Gets It

People on a new phone or after a reinstall. 10 reviewers say it started after they changed phones, reset their phone or reinstalled the app.

Is It My Email Provider?

Telegram does not say, and that is the most common complaint. Six reviewers say their Gmail address was refused, and four say Telegram rejected the domain or "popular" providers in general.

Suddenly unable to login. Keep getting an error about my email not being allowed despite it being a Gmail account with only letters in the name.

Telegram used to be straightforward, but the login process has become unnecessarily frustrating. It now asks me to add an email address, then rejects the addresses I try without clearly explaining why or which providers it accepts.

Switching addresses did not help the five reviewers who say they tried another one, and 7 say Google sign-in, the other way in, was refused as an invalid email.

Told me to update. Then the app wouldn't open. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and then wanted me to pay to use it. I did the whole process over snd then it said my email is not allowed, even if i try to go through google.

The Payment Screen on Top

24 of the 58 also ran into a request to pay: a fee to send the login code by SMS, or Telegram Premium to get past the login screen. Some saw the payment screen first and the email error after it, some the other way round.

What Telegram Says

Telegram replied to 15 of the 58. Eight replies are the same text in English or Indonesian: check that your mobile plan includes SMS, that Google Play Services is enabled and that no VPN is running, then write to [email protected]. That is advice for a missing SMS, not for a refused email address. Four ask for more details, one sends a reviewer to [email protected] for banned numbers and one thanks a 4-star reviewer.

Only one reply names the problem. To an Indonesian reviewer who got "email not allowed" after entering the right code, Telegram wrote that login problems and "email not allowed" messages should be sent to [email protected] with "#playstore" in the subject.

What You Can Try

Write to [email protected] with "#playstore" in the subject. That is the only email-specific route Telegram gives in its replies. Include your phone number in international format and the exact error text. None of the 58 reviewers reports back that it worked, so treat it as the official route, not a fix.

Don't burn through addresses. Five reviewers tried other addresses and got the same error, and the reviewers who mention Gmail say it was refused too. If the first two fail, stop and contact support.

Check for a logged-in device before you reinstall. Several reviewers only met the email screen after reinstalling or changing phones. Telegram sends login codes to a device where you are still logged in, as reviewers who lost or broke their old phone keep finding out. If Telegram is still open on another phone, a tablet or Telegram Desktop, keep that session and log in from there first.

Don't pay to get past the error. Two reviewers say they paid the SMS fee and were still blocked, one by the email error and one by a payment screen that said the item was already bought.
