Dollar General App Won't Log In: 125 of 180 Reviews (2026)
Dollar General's app holds 4.70 stars from 823,334 Google Play ratings. We read 669 substantial negative reviews from eleven months and confirmed 180 about getting a coupon price. Of those, 125 never reach a coupon at all: they are about being signed out, locked out, or stuck at a verification screen that will not complete.
The coupon is not on the shelf and it is not on paper. It is in the app. So when the app will not let you in, you are not locked out of an app. You are locked out of the price.
Dollar General's app holds 4.70 stars from 823,334 Google Play ratings on more than 10 million installs, and 671,023 of those ratings, 81.5% of them, are five stars. On the App Store it holds 4.84 from 1,048,195 ratings. Those are strong numbers. The negative reviews underneath them are unusually concentrated, and most of them never get as far as the coupon.
Quick Answer: Why Won't the Dollar General App Let Me Log In?
In this corpus, the single most common answer is a verification step that does not complete: a code that never arrives, or a code field the app will not let you type in. We pulled the 3,000 most recent US Google Play reviews on 29 August 2026, filtered to 669 substantial 1-3 star complaints, and confirmed 180 about getting a coupon price: 26.9% of every real complaint in the window, and 78.9% of those are one-star. Of the 180, 125 (69.4%) never reach a coupon at all. They are about being signed out, locked out, or stuck at a verification screen. Only 47 (26.1%) are about a coupon itself failing. The share of complaints in this shape ran 15.1% of the month's substantial negatives last October and 43.1% in August 2026, the highest month in the window.
How We Read These Reviews
We pulled the 3,000 most recent US Google Play reviews for Dollar General-Digital Coupons on 29 August 2026, along with the live store metadata. The developer is Dollar General Corporation, the build was 15.20.101, updated 20 August 2026, and the listing declares ads but no in-app purchases.
Those 3,000 reviews cover 4 October 2025 to 29 August 2026, just under eleven months. Of them, 1,506 were 1-3 stars. We kept the ones long enough to describe something, 120 characters or more, which left 669 substantial negative reviews.
From that pool we pulled every review mentioning a coupon, a clip, a discount, a login, a password, a verification step or a lockout. That produced 371 candidates. Reading them one at a time, 191 were about something else: store inventory counts, delivery orders, in-app ads, a request for a different coupon schedule, or a mention of coupons inside a complaint about something unrelated. That is a 51.5% false-positive rate, which is high, and there is a reason for it: the app is literally called "Digital Coupons," so almost every review mentions coupons whether or not a coupon failed. What is left is 180 confirmed reviews, each assigned to exactly one category.
This corpus is US-only, because Dollar General is a US-only chain. There is no international section in this piece and there is nothing missing by leaving it out.
The Seven Shapes of a Dollar General App Complaint
| What the reviewer describes | Reviews | Share of the 180 |
|---|---|---|
| Signed out, locked out, or the password is refused | 73 | 40.6% |
| A verification code that never arrives or cannot be entered | 48 | 26.7% |
| A clipped coupon that did not come off at the register | 34 | 18.9% |
| Coupons that will not load or clip in the app | 9 | 5.0% |
| No usable signal inside the store | 8 | 4.4% |
| A forced-update loop that blocks the app | 4 | 2.2% |
| No way to unclip a coupon, so the wrong one applies | 4 | 2.2% |
Group those and the shape of the problem is clear. One hundred and twenty-five reviews, 69.4%, are about getting into the account. Forty-seven, 26.1%, are about the coupon itself. Eight are about the store's own connectivity. The app's headline job fails far less often than the login screen in front of it.
Across the 180, 31 (17.2%) say they uninstalled and reinstalled, 24 (13.3%) mention the register or self-checkout screen specifically, 15 (8.3%) say customer support did not resolve it, and 13 (7.2%) say a cashier or store employee told them nothing could be done.
1. Signed Out, Locked Out, Refused (73 Reviews)
The largest group describes a session that will not persist and a password that will not work. What makes these reviews sharper than a normal login complaint is the timing: several describe it happening in the store, in the checkout line, with the coupon already clipped.
I can't get in to click on my coupons. I sign in and it keeps on saying sign in.. I do and nothing happens. it keeps saying sign in and I do and after awhile it locks me out..I changed my password and everything and I still can't get in..
logs you out every couple weeks. for the one digital coupon I use once a month, it's not worth allowing them access to my device, wen it makes me reset my password and verify via text or email it's me.
The app was pretty good but now I cannot log in. It keeps telling me there'sam error and to try again later. I'm using a galaxy S23,FYI.
A recurring specific is a server-side error message rather than a rejected password, which reviewers read, reasonably, as the app being down rather than as their own mistake.
Every Weekend when I try to get on the app or the website to login or open the app I can't until Sunday and by then the Saturday coupons are gone.
Junk app. It wants you to log in, error in the process. I tried to proceed as guest, as I try to change store location throws me back to login screen.
One reviewer works at the company.
I'm an employee at dollar general, and the coupon situation should not be this complicated. Making me update my password and then locking me out of my account for twenty minutes. Just to keep on locking me out of my account for twenty more minutes. What the?
2. The Verification Code (48 Reviews)
Forty-eight reviews stop at the same screen, and they split into two distinct failures that are worth separating because the fix is different.
The code never arrives. Reviewers enter a phone number or email, wait, and nothing comes.
I put in my phone number to verify my number and it never sent me a code. I retried multiple times and still never got a code
can't get past the create an account part. verify phone number it never sends me a code. keep it no app is worth this much troubles. not happy with it.
Coupons disappeared, uninstalled reinstalled, The app won't sent text or email for verification. They employees on the phone are trash. the app is trash.
The code arrives but cannot be entered. This is the more specific complaint, and several reviewers describe it precisely enough to be describing a rendering bug rather than a typo.
For some reason the app forced me to log in. When I try to do 2fa it won't let me type in the code. A lot of other customers and employees have been unable to get into their accounts.
You cant log in if you use 2fa!? It logged me out out of nowhere, I log in with my credentials because biometrics give "error", and then you PHYSICALLY CANNOT CLICK THE BUTTONS.
doesnt allow me to enter the verification code after the email app worked fine till about a week ago logged me out and now not able to log back in
A third variant: the app treats a familiar phone as a new device, over and over.
keeps saying my phone is a new device. it's not. trying to verify email will not let me click on it. can't sign into my account. irritated.
This app is PURE STUIPD. Locked out, won't let me login using my phone number or email but says my number has already been used and it takes my email but still won't take my phone number to log in. I'm using the SAME PHONE NUMBER I HAVE ALWAYS USED Outrageously stupid
3. The Coupon That Did Not Come Off (34 Reviews)
These are the reviewers who got in, clipped the coupon, went to the store, and paid full price anyway. The detail that recurs is that you cannot verify it in the moment. The discount does not appear on the screen you can see. It appears on the receipt, after you have paid.
Never works for me. Lost out on so many Saturday coupons because you can't see if it comes off until after they give you your receipt and then when it doesn't, there is nothing the cashier can do about it.
The only reason I installed the app was to get access to the coupons. Despite saving the coupons, it didn't give the discount at the register.
Useless app. The clipped digital coupons don't always apply. I clipped a $10 of $30 coupon, spent $65 and the coupon didn't apply. This happened a few times. ๐
Where reviewers name a coupon, it is usually one of the recurring spend-threshold deals, and the sums are small in absolute terms and clearly not small to the person writing.
I have left a couple of reviews on this dollar store app the dollar store does not stand by their coupons I went shopping yesterday at my local store I clipped a 10 off when you spend 30 but at checkout it wouldn't give it to me and it's like that on most of there coupons
I have used this app for a long time and now all of a sudden I can't scan bar codes I can't clip coupons nothing I can not even search in the app and I'm not the only one where I live that is having issues.
The other recurring detail is that the store cannot fix it. Thirteen reviews describe a cashier, a manager or a district manager declining to override the register.
The digital coupons on my phone never match up with the amount that should be taken off at the self checkout or the register and staff says nothing can be done due to the district manager saying they can't fix the problem if it is related to the coupons.
Coupons get downloaded at home but won't work in store. Cashiers state there is nothing they can do. and it's a corporate issue. Complaints to corporate have gotten me nowhere so I will no longer shop with the app and will shop elsewhere.
First off I loved the app until I realized I had been wasting hours clipping coupons and being unable to use them. The store employees cannot make any price changes, if for some reason the clipped coupon is not working.
4. No Signal Inside the Store (8 Reviews)
Small group, large implication. Eight reviewers report that the app is unusable inside the store itself, which matters because clipping a coupon is something people naturally do while standing in front of the product.
I really like being able to clip digital coupons. But Dollar General makes it very hard once you step inside the store. There is no wifi connection even when you go on the customer wifi.
The app doesn't work at the store & the clerk said the wifi isn't good. I was told to download coupons at home & then go to the store.
can't download coupon in store, was told to go outside and upload coupons. Couldn't upload coupons outside. Tried to upload at home and wouldn't upload too, so what use are coupons if you can't get them, and the store won't do anything to honor coupons no one can get
5. The Coupon You Cannot Take Back (4 Reviews)
The smallest category, and the only one in this corpus that is a design decision rather than a failure. Clipping is one-way. If two coupons could apply to the same item, reviewers report the register picks the smaller one, and there is no way to remove it.
Its quite easy, useful and can save a few dollars but hate the fact that there is no option to unclip unwanted coupons!
Does not let you remove the $3 or $5 coupons to get to the $10 coupon. Until they've expired or are used up. I'm going to use delivery elsewhere.
When It Got Worse
Here the eleven-month window earns its keep, because it is long enough to show a shape. These are shares of each month's substantial negative reviews, not raw counts, because the number of reviews collected per month varies for reasons that have nothing to do with the app.
| Month | Substantial negatives | This theme | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oct 2025 | 73 | 11 | 15.1% |
| Nov 2025 | 73 | 22 | 30.1% |
| Dec 2025 | 42 | 8 | 19.0% |
| Jan 2026 | 71 | 25 | 35.2% |
| Feb 2026 | 82 | 23 | 28.0% |
| Mar 2026 | 67 | 21 | 31.3% |
| Apr 2026 | 32 | 7 | 21.9% |
| May 2026 | 42 | 10 | 23.8% |
| Jun 2026 | 87 | 17 | 19.5% |
| Jul 2026 | 42 | 11 | 26.2% |
| Aug 2026 | 58 | 25 | 43.1% |
August 2026 is the highest month in the window, and the access-only subset moves the same way: 8.2% of October's substantial negatives, 28.2% in January, 32.8% in August. That is the number to watch. It means roughly one in three real complaints in August was somebody who could not get into their account.
Two honest caveats. The monthly denominators range from 32 to 87, so a single month's share is noisy, and the January and August peaks are the claim here rather than any month-to-month wiggle. And the 180 confirmed reviews are spread across 21 distinct build labels, with the largest accounting for 22 of them. This is not one bad release. It is a problem that has survived a year of releases and got worse in the last one.
Step 1: Sign In at Home, Before You Shop
Every failure in this corpus is worse in the checkout line than it is on your sofa. Open the app the night before, confirm you are still signed in, and clip what you need then. Seventy-three reviewers describe being signed out without warning, often after a couple of weeks, so "I logged in last month" is not the same as being logged in now.
Step 2: If the Code Field Will Not Accept Input, Switch Channels
The most specific bug in this corpus is a verification screen that renders but will not take a keystroke. Reviewers describe buttons blocked by a graphic and code fields that cannot be focused. If the email code will not go in, try the SMS route, and vice versa. If neither takes input, force-close and reopen before you assume the code is wrong.
Step 3: If No Code Arrives at All, Check Which Identifier the Account Uses
Several reviewers report the app insisting a phone number is already in use while refusing to accept that same number to sign in. If the code never arrives, try signing in with the other identifier on the account, email instead of phone or the reverse, before you create a second account. Two reviewers here locked both of their accounts by trying to register again.
Step 4: Screenshot the Clipped Coupon Before You Go
Thirty-four reviewers found out at the receipt, which is too late. Screenshot the coupon showing as clipped, with the terms, before you leave. It will not force the register to honour it, and thirteen reviewers say store staff could not override it either, but it is the difference between a corporate complaint with evidence and one without.
Step 5: Check the Receipt in the Store, Not in the Car
The discount is not visible on the customer-facing screen while your items are being rung up. It shows on the printed receipt. Read it before you walk out, while the transaction can still be looked at, rather than discovering the gap at home. Several reviewers in this corpus describe exactly that drive home, and the money was gone by then.
