Rocket Money Won't Link Your Bank: 150 Reviews (2026)

By Unstar · Editorial Team

Rocket Money holds 4.53 stars from 138,845 Google Play ratings. We read 765 substantial negative reviews from a 282 day window and hand-verified 150 about connecting a bank, 19.6% of every real complaint. The largest group, 48 reviews, describes the same loop: the bank confirms the link, and the app asks for it again.

Rocket Money cannot do anything until it can see your money. That is not a criticism, it is the design: the app finds subscriptions by reading transactions, so the first screen after sign-up asks you to connect a bank. In the 4,000 most recent US reviews, the single largest cluster of detailed complaints is about that first screen, and the most common story inside it is not that the connection failed. It is that the connection said it succeeded and the app asked again anyway.

This sucks. I have linked my bank account 4 times in the past 20 minutes, and every time I try to use Rocket Money, it tells me to link a bank account to get started. Great waste of time!

horrible. lno matter how much I link my bank account and it says "success" I'm taken back to the link your bank account after I linked it 6 times

What We Read

We pulled the 4,000 most recent US Google Play reviews for Rocket Money on 12 September 2026, along with the live store metadata. The listing shows 4.53 stars from 138,845 ratings on more than 10 million installs, developer Rocket Money, version 16.1.0, last updated 4 September 2026, no ads and in-app purchases enabled. On the App Store the same app holds 4.48 from 389,375 ratings.

Those 4,000 reviews cover 2 December 2025 to 10 September 2026, 282 days. Of them, 1,308 are 1-3 stars, and 765 were long enough to describe something at 100 characters or more. Of those 765, 579, or 75.7%, are one star, which is high even for this kind of corpus.

From that pool we pulled every review mentioning linking, connecting, syncing or Plaid alongside a bank, account, card or a named institution. That produced 163 candidates. We read all 163 and removed 13 whose real subject was something else: being charged after deleting the account, a slow transaction editor, spam email, a pop-up, an app-account sign-up loop that never reached a bank. An 8.0% false positive rate leaves 150 confirmed reviews, 19.6% of every substantial complaint in the window, and 116 of the 150 are one star.

One thing this corpus cannot be: international. Rocket Money is not distributed outside the United States on Google Play. The UK, Canadian, Australian and Indian storefronts return no listing at all, so there is no foreign-language section in this piece and we are not going to invent one.

Because for a fifth of the people who complain, the link step is where the app stops. We read 765 substantial negative reviews from a 282-day window and hand-verified 150 about account connection, 19.6% of everything substantial. The biggest group by far, 48 reviews, describes a loop: the bank authorises the connection, the app or Plaid reports success, and then Rocket Money returns to the "link an account" screen and asks again. Fifteen of those 48 name a number of attempts, running from twice to ten, with one reviewer at dozens. A further 39 say the connection simply errors out and never completes, 21 say their bank, prepaid card or Cash App account is not supported at all, and 21 had a working connection that later broke and now needs re-linking every few days. Twelve reviewers describe a different problem with the same screen: they handed over bank credentials and only then discovered the app wanted payment. This is not a regression tied to one release. Reviews describing the loop appear in every single month of the window.

Of the six shapes this is the one that reads like a defect rather than a limitation, because the reviewers are not describing a refusal. They are describing a confirmation followed by a request to do it again.

I've tried linking my bank account over 5 times now. It says it has been successfully added, but then the app says I'm still required to add a bank and doesn't show anything linked! What a waste.

Continued to say banking account linked success and then would take me back to the plaid login screen. I could never get past the linking part to even navigate the app at all.

I do everything it asks me to do and when I connect to my bank and says successful it just send me back to beginning and makes me connect to my bank again and it just a repeat over and over

Every time, I linked my account, it would reload back into the app, then tell me I had to relink my account. Every time.

Thirteen of the 150 use the word success or successfully, and in every one of those thirteen the success message is the setup for the complaint rather than the end of it. Two reviewers name which side confirmed it, which is the detail that makes this checkable.

I linked my account 3 times through plaid(each time plaid said it was successful) and I go back to the app and it just keeps asking me to link my account... what type of bullcrap is this app on??

couldn't even link my account. Every time I tried, my bank would say it had access, but then Rocket Money would make me relink it and never let me into the app. Waste of time.

Fifteen of the 48 name a number of attempts. The counts run from twice to ten, with one reviewer at dozens, and the middle value is four. Four of the 48 uninstalled and reinstalled between attempts.

stupid app tried to connect me bank account to it so I could check my subscriptions and ect. I tried 8 times and each time it tells me that it was connected but when I would log back in. it would tell me that I needed to connect my account in order to check it. I gave up after thd 8th time.

Every time I download this app and try to link my bank account, it never works. I link my account like 10 times, the app and my bank says it is linked, but rocket money can never input my information into their app making this app completely useless...

app does not work. Will not let me do anything except "link account" which I have done several times. always brings me back to the same link account screen. Uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times.

The loop also blocks everything behind it, which is why the tone runs hot for what is, in isolation, a setup bug.

Won't let me pass linking my accounts. I've Un-installed and re-installed. after I link my account and they ro log back in, it takes me right back to the page to link my accounts. I cant get past there.

I've linked my bank account and it says success but literally everytime I open the app I can't do a thing in the app because it repeatedly asks for me to link my account. seriously!? so annoying

Pretty frustrating experience with Rocket Money. I added my bank account twice and the app still kept asking me to connect it again like it never saved. Makes it hard to trust the app when basic account linking doesn’t even work properly.

That last line names the real cost. The app is asking for permission to read a bank account, and the first thing it demonstrates is that it did not keep what it was given.

2. The Connection That Never Completes (39 Reviews)

The second group never gets a success message at all. The authorisation errors out, or the bank sign-in drops them before the final step, or the app sits on a spinner.

This app is garbage. I could not link my checking account. I went to the sign in for my bank and signed in and got promptly signed out before I could check the box to link my account.

Ok i tried to use this app and every time I tried to link my bank account. It told me something went wrong. I did it 5 times finally got tired of it and just erased it.

Awful setup process. Failed to provide a simple, working option to connect to my bank. It made me do a runaround with this Plaid thing and my bank. Don't bother; spare your time elsewhere.

One review in this group deserves its own line, because it describes support giving an instruction the reviewer could not follow.

Never connected to my accounts despite multiple attempts and customer service is unable to help. Their solution was to try connecting on a computer instead of the app, but the computer version is only available with a paid subscription.

We cannot verify the claim about the web version being paid-only, and the reviewer may have hit a different wall than they think. What is worth noting is the shape of it: the escape route offered for a broken connection was a surface the reviewer says they could not reach.

3. Banks and Cards the App Cannot See (21 Reviews)

The third group is not a bug. It is a coverage boundary, and the reviewers who hit it are unusually specific about what they hold: prepaid and payroll cards, credit union accounts, and Cash App.

Useless if you dont bank with huge corporations that support Plaid. App is unusable for CashApp users specifically.

they use plaid to link accounts and if you use a reloadable card or a payroll type of card account you can't use it. I've had this issue across many platforms with plaid. as soon as I see the logo I know I am not using that service.

You can't add checking accounts that aren't compatible with Plaid, and you can't add your Cash App account. Those are the two accounts I use. You can't add an account that isn't connected.

The sharpest version of this complaint is not about coverage at all. It is about what happens when coverage fails and you look for a manual workaround.

Doesn't have my bank. It tells you that you can still use the app without your bank linked, but everything you click on says please link your account to use this feature. And there's no way to like your account using just account and routing numbers. Absolutely nothing they advertise works.

edit in response to developer feedback: the lack of ability to link my bank account was annoying but I assumed I could manually add transactions to compensate. now I've found out that manual transactions are locked behind a paywall. the developers created a problem then charge for the fix. not cool.

We have no way to check whether that reviewer's bank is in fact a supported institution, and reviewers are often wrong about which side of a connection failed. The claim we can count is narrower and appears 21 times: the account they wanted to track could not be added, and there was no way to add it by hand.

4. Connections That Worked, Then Stopped (21 Reviews)

This group matters more than its size, because these are the paying customers. Nine of the 21 are one star, the lowest share of any group here, which is what a corpus looks like when the reviewers used to like the product.

originally I loved this app it saved me headaches and made everything easy to understand however then everything started disconnecting every account gets disconnected from it almost daily now that I spend more time trying to add the account back in then I do focusing on my finances I got so tired of it that I just removed

Regular "an account requires attention" messages as accounts are randomly disconnected and require re-connection.

App can't maintain links with my accounts. Plaid is incredibly frustrating to initiate connections and can't keep the connections. I spend more time re-linking my accounts than being able to actually use the app.

I canceled my premium account after using RM for years because it suddenly WILL NOT connect to my bank. I'm not wasting money on something that completely stopped working. Beyond angry right now.

Updated and it broke my account linking completely, definitely not renewing premium and I'd recommend cancelling if you do

Eighteen of the 150 name Plaid, the service that brokers these connections, and they are split between blaming it and blaming Rocket Money for using it. From outside the app there is no way to tell which side dropped a connection, so we counted the complaint and left the attribution to the two companies.

A separate complaint about the same screen, and the one that generates the strongest language in the corpus. Twelve reviewers say they connected their financial accounts first and found out the price second.

Seriously hate the fact that the app gets you to connect everything before it tells you that you need to pay for even the basic services.

horrible bait and switch app. The first thing they do it have you link all of your bank and credit card accounts and then they tell you how much it costs. fraudulent at best.

AFTER connecting ALL MY ACCOUNTS and completing setup it wants payment! seriously pay a sub to cancel your other subs ...

Two of the twelve go further and describe the exit from that screen being blocked as well.

to go through this setup I had to link my bank accounts then was forced to pick a paid tier and could not bypass it nor go back and unlink my account without being forced to select a paid tier. free trial or not that's predatory as hell.

It's not quite as easy as it shows on the commercials. The part at the beginning where you choose how much you think is fair to pay for it to get your free 7 day trail gives you the option to do $0 then immediately forces you to pay $7 minimum.

We are not going to print a price list, because the tiers in these reviews span the whole window and reviewers disagree about what they were shown. What is consistent across all twelve is the order of events, and the order is the complaint. A related handful, five reviewers, never get that far and say so plainly.

Looks like a neat app, but it loses all stars for me where you can't do anything until you link a bank account. I need the ability to explore the other features an app has to offer before I go through the hassle and risk of linking my personal

Forces you to link your checking account, which I don't do because of a higher risk of identity theft.

None of this is advice from Rocket Money, and none of it is guaranteed to work. It is what the 150 reviews suggest is worth trying, in the order that wastes the least time, written for the most common case in the corpus: you linked, it said success, and the app asked again.

Step 1: Stop Repeating the Same Attempt

The middle reviewer who counted their attempts in this corpus tried four times, and the ones who tried eight or ten got the same result as the ones who tried twice. Repeating an authorisation that already reported success is the one thing the corpus shows does not work. Cap yourself at two attempts, then change something about the attempt rather than the count.

Step 2: Check Which Side Thinks You Are Connected

Open your bank's own app or website and look at its list of connected apps or third-party access. Several reviewers describe the bank confirming access while Rocket Money showed nothing, and one says the bank sent a confirmation email for a link the app never registered. If the bank shows the connection and the app does not, the failure is downstream of your credentials, which means re-entering them is wasted effort and the next step is support rather than another attempt.

Step 3: Remove the Half-Made Connection Before Retrying

If the bank shows an active connection that the app cannot see, revoke it from the bank side, then start the link once more from a clean state. Reviewers who stacked attempt on attempt describe ending up with duplicates and an account list they could not clean up. One clean attempt after a revoke is worth more than five on top of a broken one, and it also leaves the bank's access list tidy if you decide to abandon the app.

Step 4: Confirm Your Account Type Is Actually Supported

Twenty-one reviewers spent real time on a connection that was never going to work, because prepaid cards, payroll cards, some credit unions and Cash App balances are not all reachable. Check that the account you actually want to track is supported before you spend another hour on it, and know before you start that reviewers report no way to add an account manually as a fallback.

Step 5: Deal With Any Charge Separately From the Connection

If you linked an account, were moved onto a trial or a tier, and now cannot use the app, treat those as two problems. Cancel the billing through the store or the app's own subscription settings first, on its own timeline, and pursue the connection afterwards if you still want to. A connection you are still arguing about is not a reason to leave a subscription running, and several reviewers in this corpus describe discovering the charge long after they had stopped trying to make the app work.

What This Does Not Show

A count of complaints is not a rate of failure. Rocket Money's Play histogram holds 107,433 five-star ratings against 8,265 one-star, and we read none of the positive ones. If the link loop hits one user in five hundred, that is both a lot of reviews and a small defect. This corpus gives you the shape of what goes wrong, not the denominator.

We did not test the connection ourselves. We did not create an account, hand over bank credentials or try to reproduce the loop. Everything here is a census of what reviewers wrote.

Reviewers cannot see which side failed. A link that reports success and then disappears could be the bank, the aggregator or the app. Where a reviewer named a culprit we reported the claim as theirs.

We measured Android only, and only in the United States. The app holds 4.48 from 389,375 App Store ratings against 4.53 from 138,845 on Google Play, and it is not distributed on Google Play outside the US. Nothing here describes the iPhone app.

Nobody writes a review when the bank connects. Every person in this corpus had a reason to open the store and type. Ten million people installed this app, and the 150 are not a sample of them.
